Poke in the dark, but I was out bid at the Japanese auction this week on this FJ56 with the 2F, curious if the buyer is on here.

It had rust, but I wanted to import it as a possible upcoming project.

Nice looking rig. Curious, what did it sell for and what's the difference between an FJ55 and FJ56?

55 has a rear hatch and 56 has barn doors

55 has a rear hatch and 56 has barn doors

That’s not how it works.

55/56 are not designators of hatches or barn doors. They are designators of market-specific models.

A rear door configuration would be considered an option or an actual construction specification. This comes after the model designation “-“ …

There are 55s with hatches and barn doors; there are 56s with hatches and barn doors.

As far as I know the 56 is the designation in Asia or Japan only when the 6 cyl was available. I think. The 2 40s I had years ago were JDM imports and were designated differently than NA vehicles. It was 31 years I imported my first JDM HJ45.

And as I registered auction buyer I do get see the selling price, but feel it is not right to share that publicly. This 50 was a good deal I believe. This will make a unique expedition rig.

what year was it, 78, 79 or 80?
looks like it had some roof rust issues
also had some extra access panels

It was an 80 with less than 40,000 miles. Severe body rust on the auction sheet and low selling price for a 55, I wouldn't have felt bad cutting the roof for a pop top.

Japanese Landcrusiers occasionally come from the factory with camping kit. I've bid a several 80's with camping editions, over the years, but they do sell high

Those rear doors are killer. And don't get me started on that rear bumper.....
