I might be shopping for 5 speed manual.

Another shot at this problem: A650

How would this tranny work or not in our trucks.
It is from that fuzzy time in between mechanical and electronics safety implementations.

Would it be safe to assume A650 bolts up to 1FZ no problem?
Apparently it comes from the same family of A34x transmission, only with enhanced technology (possibly using overdrive to mimic an extra gear).
1st gear= 1st gear
2nd gear= 1st gear + overdrive
3rd gear= 2nd gear
4th gear= 3rd gear
5th gear= 3rd gear + overdrive

Or is this a myth?

A650? Don't know it. But I'm looking.

That's a 2wd trans, so cast in tail housing right? That's a problem.

I not even going to pretend I know what that means.
It is a RWD tranny, but I thought since we use a transfer case, it might just work.
The problem is that the tailshaft is cast right in to the transmission. On a 4x4 transmission, there is a mounting face for the transfer case to bolt to. I like your thinking, there must be some way to upgrade. I would love to. A modern auto would wake up the 1fz-fe

Not sure about the tail housing, but my gs400 runs the a650. Its a good transmission, has an electronic up/downshift option.
Some 2wd transmissions have a removable tail so it might work.

According to google images, the tail is bolt on. Very good news

Sub'd

Could be a huge upgrade.

The A650 came behind a 4.0L V8 moving a dinky car. I'm guessing that is not an issue when it comes to moving our pigs?
