After trying a few different options and never being quite satisfied… behold:

So the back story is I got tired of the Ram-X Mount falling off the window when I was bumping down the road. Seemed to have a 5 hour suction limit that always expired at the most inconvenient time.

I tried a 3D printed version but there must either be a different ash tray in the 100 series or the LX changed over the years. Net was, I couldn’t get that to work on my 06 LX.

Cup holder option is out there…but I use the cup holders sometimes. I didn’t want to rip the dash out (again…did that for the BT45-TOY) and install the metal plate. Plus, I was hoping to be able to make it easy to reverse if I screwed it up or wanted to make it look stock on the inside again.

At any rate, finally decided enough was enough and come hell or high water, I was not going to have a cell phone sloshing around my cabin anymore.

Solution ended up being stupid easy.

1. Pull out the ashtray, take a plastic tool, pop out the outer receptacle the ashtray slides into.

2. Take the ball mount off the suction cup of my Ram-X.

3. Find a random screw in the spare parts bin and attach the ball mount to the outer receptacle.

4. Reconnect the arm to the ball mount.

5. Slide it back into the center console.

Problem solved.

I happened to have a M10 and matching rivnut but you could use anything lying around the garage. Drop the bolt/screw/whatever in from the top. Nut goes on the inside. Only one of the Ram ball mount holes is secured but the thing doesn’t move at all. All the torque on the mount is up and down vice side to side when viewed from the drivers seat. Sturdy. Perfect spot. Easy to plug a charger into it. I’m a dummy for waiting this long to fix it.
