I'm helping a friend that is helping some older folks price this 40 right. I'm personally interested in it a little bit but for a much lower price than they are hoping. I just want to help them with expectations and maximize their sell price and maybe see if anyone on here is interested.. It is rough in the typical areas but its a numbers matching 5/78 with a lot of original items. Has an aftermarket carb and runs, but there is an exhaust leak for sure. Looks like there was a shackle reversal done which I don't know a lot about. Maybe a saginaw PS conversion. Missing rear jump seats. The front floor pans and tunnel seem solid but the rear quarters and real seal are completely rotted. All 4 doors seem pretty solid on the bottoms. Bib and windshield have rot, hood seems solid. I'm not sure why there is so much bondo on the passenger fender as it seems there is good steel around where the turn signal should be. Any input on a fair price or what they can expect would be great. Located in Sandy, Utah.

How much are they asking
Their son who passed away and who was the owner at the time paid $11,000 for it I would guess 15+ years ago. I think that is the number they have in their head. Before I saw it in person I told my friend to tell them a decent specimen would be in the 12K to 18K. Then once I saw it in person I told them that would be a stretch considering the rust.

My opinion is worth what you are paying for it but I wouldn’t want to be in it for more than 6K. That way when I put 20K more in it to get to get it safe and drivable I will be able to tell myself it is still worth what I have in it.

Want to know how to price it right? Put it high and if it doesn’t move for a month. Drop it a little. In a bind? Drop it more. It’ll sell the moment someone finds value in your price. If you want top dollar you have to weight so look at what’s moving and what’s sitting.

There’s no answer to this constantly requested question.
