Box Rocket
SILVER Star
It's about time to open this up for this year. This will be the third year of the Southwest Adventure and I'm sure it will be another awesome trip. For those not familiar with it, this is a multi-day trip that typically covers several hundred miles offroad, camping in remote primitive camping areas. The wheeling generally isn't "difficult" and is more of an "overland" style trip although there is some challenges that can be encountered. For example, we've tackled Rose Garden Hill, Elephant Hill, as a couple of examples of the types of terrain that are the level of difficulty typically encountered.
The Dates for this year's trip is April 26-May 1. Rough itinerary is meet as a group on Friday evening (April 26) for dinner, have breakfast together the morning of the 27th and hit the trail. We will camp on Saturday night, Sunday night, Monday night, and Tuesday night, then arrive in Moab, Utah on Wednesday, May 1 around lunchtime. So if anyone attending this trip is also planning to attend Cruise Moab, you will arrive in Moab in time to get checked in and settled before the guided trail runs begin on Thursday.
This trip is intended primarily for product testing and acquisition of marketing materials for 4xOverlandUSA.com and Endless Horizon Outfitters and their dealers of Slinky suspension products. Slinky dealers and customers will get priority spots on the trip. Remaining spots will be given to other potential slinky customers and others that want to participate and enjoy an awesome trip. Because of logistics and ability to cover the distances required the group size is limited to 12-15 vehicles max.
Vehicles must be in good mechanical condition and capable of highway speeds. The goal is for the trip to be entirely on dirt but that isn't always possible so there may be some short highway sections and pavement driving into fuel stops. But vehicles should be reliable and comfortable for 100-200 miles per day offroad. Participants must have a working CB or HAM radio, road worthy full size spare tire, any spare parts that are appropriate, tool kit, first aid kit, recovery gear (kinetic rope and/or tow strap with webbing loop ends - no hooks), proper frame mounted recovery points, winch is recommended but not required.
Locking diffs are not required. 32" or larger tires with good tread. No excessive fluid leaks. Vehicles must have a fuel range of 250 miles minimum.
Participants will provide their own camping equipment and food for the duration of the trip. However, it's common for participants to share food among the group as we will camp together as a group each evening. Have some cash on hand in the event of passing through National Park fee stations etc.
If you are interested in participating in this trip, please reply to this thread and also send me a PM. I'll be keeping a list of participants. Trip T-shirts will be provided to participants.
Trip route details will be posted in the coming weeks as we get closer. But the general area for the trip is southern Utah, possibly including northern Arizona, southeast Nevada, western Colorado and northwest New Mexico. We are looking at several route options and the final route will likely not include all of those locations, but the route options being considered are found in those areas.
@dockbox Kevin Brown from Endless Horizon Outfitters, and @AutoCraft Aus Darren McRae are in charge of the trip and can also answer questions and take attendance requests.
Here are trip reports from past Southwest Adventure trips to whet the appetite.

4xOverlandUSA - Southwest Adventure 2017
Back in May I was fortunate to be part of a product testing trip with the 4xOverlandUSA team as we tested the Slinky Long Travel suspension over 600 miles of dirt across southern Utah and Arizona from St George, Utah to Moab just in time to arrive for Cruise Moab. From my perspective it was a...
