Decided to post pics of the finished product in a new thread (old one is dead).

Old thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/271505-another-luke-bumper-kit.html

As for the modified part, it's in reference to the side pieces. The Labs bumper doesn't blend with factory flares too well (opinions vary), so I changed them up a bit.

Looks awesome. Do you have an estimate on how much time this took to put together not including the custom side wings?

Also, do you know what size wire you used to weld it with and the amperage? My little bro has a small wire fed welder but I doubt it is big enough for this type of project.

A Shizzload! Tough to say for sure, but if you are a true perfectionist you could work on it for the rest of your life. I would estimate 25hrs off and on. Finally I had to stop filling and grinding and just be done with it. What a relief:).

Hardly any noticable difference. I swear it has a seat of the pants performance gain. Probably my imagination.

Nice job. I just got mine back from the powder coaters this week.

sprocket3, what's a ballpark figure for powercoating a bumper? One of my housemates dropped off his 1970's motorcycle frame today and the estimate was $500 for sand blasting and satin black powdercoat(!).

I've always thought I'd like to do the Luke kit myself, but am wondering how much of the savings (by assembling it myself) would be sucked up in the powdercoating charge; I'd rather not rattle can it.

Thanks.

That seems real high to me. You can have him call the guy I used if he wants. I think half of what he does is bike and quad stuff. He is a quad freak.

I paid $350 for bumper, tire holder, and 3 can holder. This was higher than normal as it was done is color powder that had to be special ordered and ran $120 just for the powder. I also had a clear coat done.

Normal bumpers run around $250 ish so so I think in black. That's with dual swing outs.

I think luke charges for powder coating as well. These are major projects to be honest. I have a ton of time in it. Do it for fun and money if you do it.

Love the clean and perfect fit
