Wow the trucks P does work in 4 L! Now what? Thanks again everyone for the help
If your rear wheels were spinning (or one was), and neither front wheel was spinning, a previous owner may have installed a "part time" kit.
Something is broken, are both drive shafts in place? Lock the CDL, lock the axles, with it in P, jack it up and try to turn the tires. You shouldn't be able to turn any of them. Or, just in P, CDL locked, jack up one tire at a time, shouldn't be able to turn any of them.
How about the drive shafts? Are they installed?
Yup, definitely connected. Can you pull the center caps and pull the birf end cap cover off to see if you see a birfield stub inside?
WOW! Thats all I can say, amazing!
That would explain your 2WD predicament....now to understand why somebody took the birfs out. I am suspecting damage to the front differential. Looks like you will be tearing into your front axle soon. Post updates for us.
Makes sense. Does this also explain the rolling in P issue?
We've found that it rolls in P while in 4 H, but in 4 L the rear wheels do not roll.
Could you tell me what the next step is?
I edited my post above, but yes it does explain it.
Next steps are to pull the other cap and see if there is a birf in there. If there is not, pull your 3rd member differential and inspect for any damage on the gears, housing, center section. There has to be a reason why this was done.
