What is up with this, I just went the second parts store to get an oil pan gasket for one of my 60's and both places had 4 piece gaskets. I have done this many times before, infact a couple of months ago on a different 60, it was a one piece gasket? As it that wasn't already a big pain in the butt. Does any know why this is happeneing. And let's skip the blah blah about Toyota parts.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

I got an aftermarket not long ago and it was a 4 piece as well.

Just as a guess, from a manufacturing and shipping point of view, the 4 peice ships much easier and it's nice and flat, so there's a lower chance of spoilage (during shipping)

And if you don't think that a manufacturer would put out a s***tier product just to save a penny or two, well...I've got some bad news for you.

ever think about spending a few $ more for the correct OEM gasket?

oh sorry thats not what you wanted to hear............

I would use the OEM, but if you want to save a few pennies, try the Beck/Arnley gasket from NAPA.
I recall they're one piece. Call ahead to make sure.

.

All the aftermarket (and of course OEM) oil pan gaskets I carry are single units... Those 4 piece ones suck... and never stay together while your lifting your 20 year old, bent pan into shape... Find the 1-piece ones.. don't wast your time otherwise.
