Also I've had the timing advanced with injection pump the 1/8" maybe a bit more. then I added the dynamic timing m&h spacer I should have pulled the timing back out at the pump adjestment. just remembered that small detail my drive pressure was possibly a touch high

Well I'd say that is a blown head gasket

I'm not sure what to think about the little bit of wire draw on the piston edges next the bad gasket. there is a simular defect on a third piston. bores look great. head doesn't even apears to be cracked but need to get it cleaned up and checked.

Little bit of "wire draw"? Not sure what you're referring to, but she looks good to me!

@cjmoon hey Jess, first picture post #383, whats going on with the piston at the 1 o'clock position ? Almost looks like it has a ragged edge to it but maybe that's just a trick of the lighting.
that's the wire draw mentioned that I'm seeing on 3 pistons. its more on the face of the piston right on the edge not the side of the piston. I'm a valve guy in the process world and wire draw is when high pressure something is screaming past a seal it eats away at stuff like a water jet.

I don't see any cracks so I'm going to have my head cleaned and checked. heavy cast iron head warp is typically not an issue, cracks are between valves is

I see what you mean. Is that not just carbon buildup?

Is this a 9mm head or a 7mm head? If 9mm make sure to have them check for cracks around the injector seats.

It's the 9mm I thought about just updating to 7mm but I don't see any cracks so it's worth the $55 to clean and inspect. Maybe I can save about $800 by the time I get new injectors and everything. if it needs machined then I'll likely get a new head. but if it needs knowthing. then 60# springs and ARP studs and call it a day.

Exactly what I'm planning on doing when I pull the head off of my motor again (hopefully I won't need to do that for a while). Have them magnaflux the head, it'll show some seriously small cracks you can't see with your eye.

Well got the valves put and cleaned the typical spots and found cracks. Looks like new head and injectors are in order. Prabably need to spend some time on the lower end to insure putting all this money into it is worth while vs finding a good running 6bt to swap in

What injectors did you have in there before? Were they in good shape? I've been putting off buying new injectors for my motor since I put it in and am thinking I can help relieve some of the burden by buying your old ones (depending of course).

Seems like injectors has been a talked about topic lately on Toyota, Isuzu, and Cummins engines. They have been on my list for awhile to at least have them serviced.

the injectors are 9mm 155 Spray Stock injectors with about 1000 miles from Diesel Performance Parts | Diesel Fuel Injection Repair | Diesel Truck Performance Products | Huckstorf Diesel Pump and Injector Service Inc of Wisconsin the early dodge replacement injectors.

i think I've convinced myself to pull the pan and check bearings and pull at least one of the pistons to inspect if the engine needs any machine work or pistons (still not sure i'm ok with the wire draw on the top of the piston) it's going to be hard to not go with a good running 6bt for about the same cost as a rebuild.

I decided I didn't like the pistons and rod surfices so I'm looking for a 6bt to pull modern 145 spray pistons and rods as my crank and black look great. I'll hone and use new rings and bearings. With a new head. The block cleaned up well. Im planning on more flat stone clean up.

Well broke down and started ordering parts. New head 7mm, bearings, pistons/small bowl 7mm 145* pistons, arp studs , hd valve springs, new injectors. And all new seals from cummins. Still keeping it in the chassie at this point.

Also since it's sitting decided my rear suspension and parking brakes needed a redo. New crank and brakets and small hardware, ome 862 springs used radflow shocks, spacers and air bags (have had the air bags in for a few years)

Engine is almost back together with rust repair taking the lead. stupid Midwest...

I must say as much as i'm missing the cruiser I'm learning to like my subaru outback more as I get use to its quarks. almost 220k on it now with it being my primary the last few months. I've never driven a car with massive over steer like this but its still stable with awd. 250hp and 5 speed auto... which only makes me think about the a750f swap more. if I only had more time.
