I'm headed down to Ensenada in the morning, running with the Stock Full class Lexus/JT Grey team again. I'm in for the 2nd leg (San Felipe whoops) and the final leg. Unsure at this point if Stock Full will be running the silt beds...rumor has it those are NASTY this year.

I know a few other 'MUD members head down with various teams, pit support or as the ALL IMPORTANT medical crew...hope everyone has safe travels and a great race weekend!

Joe's finish/win record is so good it's a sure thing he will get another class win.

Your job sucks.

:flipoff2:

Motos are off...insane that those riders start the race in the DARK! Glad I'm not that crazy...

Tho, Adrian Cheney is...find his video out on youtube...insanity...

Contingency today was ridiculous...lots of people, and a REALLY long wait....we got in line at noon and finally made it back to the hotel at 5:30...

IIRC, 243 race entries from 24 counties...I get into the 8115 car about RM209 and exit the car about RM 500. Our class of 5 cars DOES skip the nasty silt bed section :)

It is sad that he died because of a booby trap. If he crashed on the course it would be sad, but it is wrong that he lost his life due to the booby trap.

all my best thoughts to his family. Sad anyway but worse if intentional. At least he died while doing what he loved no doubt.

Keep your eyes peeled, Woody...

The rumors of a booby trap are untrue.

A few guys I'm with are/were good friends and his death is a tragic loss to his family, friends and to the motorsports community.

Good on you for finishing....

Sad to see such young people loose there life during this race...

A sad, sad day.

His bike has animal remains on it and animal parts were found at the crash. It appears he hit an animal on a high speed section of the course. A tragic accident.

He so wanted to win the Baja 1000 for his dad, and at the time, he was leading by over 20 minutes with 80 miles to go. In my book, this was his win!

I have known Kurt and his family since he was 6 years old and have been part of the KTM pit crew. His father raced Baja, so Kurt knew the risks, but something like this...

Here is my last picture with Kurt in Baja.

We all miss you.

Missed this thread.
Spent the week covering the medical side of the race on the San Felipe side.
Started at 1am, moved into place for the motos, 1x and 2x went by within feet of each other, who knew the epic race they would have all the way to the end.

Stayed on the course till the helo's were up about 8, had breakfest in town, rested and waited for the big show. Went back to the course when we heard the trucks and buggies hit the lake bed.
Its funny Woody but I was at MM211 past the BFG pit for the whole day, saw the Lexus go by, waited for the golf carts to go by, bout that time the 2x stuff started happening.
It was obvious something bad was going down, got the call from SCORE ops about 8pm. Kurt was the most talented rider in the desert, without a doubt a master of motos. I doubt the desert will be the same for a while.
It was a tough trip home.:frown:

great pic Doug:frown:

Its a measure of how good a person Kurt was based on the response from anyone he has ever ridden with or against after his death.
