I didn’t find a thread on this but I have a leak out of the big seal on this 81 box. How hard is it to pull the arm and seal off? Do I need special pullers?

Yes, you need the best/strongest Pitman arm puller you can get your hands on.

you can do it however you want .i have found a good puller with heat and it comes right off.or you can drain the oil and fill the box with grease and probably never deal with it again

If you don't care to buy a nice puller, you can rent one from the parts store. Auto zone had a $99 pitman arm puller which works great! You will usually best to get the best grip when the pitman arm is centered/straight down. Also using a large C clamp to insure that the puller stays seated. You can fiddle fart around by tapping on it and trying to loosen it up, but nothing beats a little heat to remove it. Direct/angle the heat away from the steering box. Generally heating the top portion will do it. Its nice to have a buddy on a ratchet to crank on the puller.
