Not sure why you say this is straight forward. This a long way from the FST it left the factory. Hard top and hard doors are a direct add on. Would ask to see a bunch of picture of how those ambulance were added. Believe I said in your other thread it's a lot of work to add ambulance doors correcting to a earlier tub. I gave the idea up on my 68 and ending up buyer a cruiser with ambulance doors. Tailgate and hatch would be more useful if you don't have passenger's in the back.

I’m just trying to get some opinions, not step on toes or anything. It’s a fixer upper for sure. Just how much I’ll find out when I look at it.

You’re well on your way to 40 opinions with 5 so far. Just another 35 to go.

Looks like a good fixer upper. And since that’s a wide open opinion I feel safe to share it. Ok, now you only need 34. :p

Few years ago someone from back east was having a 78 he bought restored in AZ. He was looking at options to fill the opening in the back with the top off. I posted a number of pictures showing that a tailgate that fit on the back of the FST was flush on ambulance door models. Not sure which Saturday but will be in Prescott on a Saturday next month. Would be curious how those doors fit the tub. If you can get some detailed pictures of the rear sill and how ambulance doors work post them or can message them to me. Already have a 73 FST that's been sitting for twenty-four years, not looking to swoop in and buy anymore FJ40s. I can tell if this was a deal it would probably already be gone.

Frankencruiser; in no universe would that be worth $10,000.

It is a red neck restoration. Nothing wrong with buying a RNR at the right price. If you are interested persuing this rig, make a list of things mudders say that are off. Take the list and work the seller down to under $4000.

Add to your list.
1. PO may have ran SAE bolts or lag bolts into the gauge cluster retaining nuts

2. Front end may be tweaked. Hood overhangs on driver side. Passenger apron is not covered by hood.

3. Rear turn signals are from Walmart. Missing rear reflectors also.

4. Rear swing out tire carried is MIA.

5. A big price dropper for me would be the factory wiring looks missing or hacked. I bet it is Necked up wireing. Hopefully I’m wrong.

6. What’s up with steering column at firewall?

7. Holes in dash. -$500:D

#6 is easy. Gasket that sealed the steering column and column shifter is dried rotted and this is how they sealed it. On my 68 went floor shift back in 74. Have used different types of tape since. Currently have foilback tape. Have a couple a OEM gasket will use next time I getting it running. Been stored in a garage for a while. Tape does not make the mess like what they used.

It always bugs me when I find a thread like this with a bunch of juicy critiques and the craigslist ad is taken down! :flipoff2: so here are the pictures and text from the ad

“1969 toyota land cruiser

VIN: FJ4065659
condition: fair
cylinders: 6 cylinders
drive: 4wd
fuel: gas
paint color: green
title status: clean
transmission: manual
type: offroad

1969 land cruiser needs a new home. Has original strait 6 engine, 3 speed manual transmission, heater core with blower, working windshield wipers, 4x4 transfer case, and all original dash gauges work. Runs OK, could use some carburetor tuning and 4x4 vacuum hose leaks. Hard top and doors with full roll cage, has later model rear ambulance doors and passenger seat. Will entertain cash as-is offers and am happy to answer any questions you may have about the land cruiser.”

You can make anything work if you want it bad enough. My experience is that I would rather buy an beat up ORIGNAL faded/rusted original paint FJ40 than one that has the cheap and dirty "restoration" with new paint, or modified beyond recognition. You end up having the reverse a lot of nonsensical alterations before you can get to zero and start your restoration. That my friend, costs time and money. Be patient and look for the vehicle that suits your skill set and budget. You will end up with a truck you can be proud of rather than one that frustrates you every time you look at it.

Build with the end result in mind. Find the easiest path between A and B.

This particular FJ40 could be fixed at some price, but there are too many good original FJ40s around that are a quicker path to having a nice truck than this example. You will see them. (given enough time and patience)

Clutch call @John in Utah

More things to check out:

7. The oil fill cap looks like a later fuel cap. If it’s a bad fit, point it out.

8. What the heck are they using for a steering wheel horn button? Definatly a creative fix.

9. Transmission tunnel was badly hacked when they added a floor shifter. -$500;)

10. Cabin Light over right turn indicator is a good idea but that hack in the dash further hurts this cruisers value.

11. Windshield defroster duct is missing near drivers right leg.

12. Front door limiters are missing. Passenger side tab is still pressent. That’s a plus. Did the drivers side limiter tab get ripped off?

13. Smurf blue thermostat neck and intake manifold. -$137:hillbilly:

14. Front side apron markers look like truck stop markers. If aprons were hacked, subtract -$150.

15. The front turn signals don’t look OEM.

It does have the cool OEM Elephant horns:cheers:

Man you guys are tough. My poor truck is worth about....nothing. A lot of the "hacks" everyone points out matter to someone who wants to go "stock resto" but not to folks who want a working cruiser. Whether or not there are two holes cut in the dash that are not stock is really not a big deal and not minus $500 to the average Joe (I know it's a joke, but still...). It's also called "character" to some of us. Like the scars and wrinkles we all get as we age. They tell stories. Some Good Stuff in the steering column hole? Who cares? Take it out if you don't like it. What is the end goal for the cruiser? I don't know that it's worth 10k....here, I'll post one far far worse from my neck of the woods. They are asking 15k.... Now that's a joke. It DOES have a pinstripe. 1978 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FJ40
