Then I cut the floor to the taper needed for the "dovetail", and placed the tub back on the newly "doved" frame...

Great looking welds!!

Pure art :)

Thanks for the compliment!!

I have put alot of time and thought into it,

 This was a bare frame on Aug 14th and the above pic is how it sit's as of today, I have had a few late nights over the past 45 day's :D due to only being able to work on it in the evenings and a couple of weekends

I am pretty happy with the progress at this point !!

So the question came up the other day in a conversation.....Whether I think I have Increased or Decreased the value of this "40" by doing what I have done to it, as oppossed to doing a resto type build with mild mods ??

So I am curious.....What do you think??

and what would it be worth with these mods ? :meh:

There's definitely a larger market for the restored, mostly original 40, so that would have an effect on demand and therefore value. On the other hand, if you found the person who was looking for exactly what you've done, then it would increase the value to him.

I HAVE REQUESTED TO HAVE THIS THREAD MOVED TO THE "HARDCORE" SECTION ....:D

So should it dissapear ,that is where you can find it !! ;)

man that looks so good.

keep up the good work!

what did you use to get the frame so clean? i didnt see any grinder marks...

Wow! I am very impressed!

Beautiful work, I can't imagine the hours you've spent.
thanks!! I geuss I probably have a couple hours into it!

Very nice documentation with the pics of the dovetail - the little details on the door pillars and what not are great.

Did you already weld in the inner fenders? If not - I would raise them several inches and cut the outer skins far higher. Just my .02 cents.

Value: Meaning no offense, but I think from where you started would have taken several thousand in new parts, bodywork and what not to make it worth much. You probably would have spent far more than what the end worth would have been. It's value is in a whole new category - to me a linked 40 is priceless in terms of recreational value, the small block and drivetrain is just icing on the cake :D.

GAWD DAMN NICE WORK!
Id be curious to find out how much this rig is gonna weigh when all is said and done!
That is a SH*T LOAD of steel on that thing!
Looks BAD ASS!

REALLY NICE JOB!

Thanks etrnlbzz!!! What is this project you speak of ??:hhmm:

As for the "link numbers" I have alot of adjustment and havent settled on a specified set up yet, Once I find the setup that works best, I will release the actual numbers ;)

the taco spring setup is a slider style ,set at 5" bump and room to slide 12" + the strech of the spring once it hits the slide stop. :D
I (my wife and I) picked up a running '68 fj40 when we finshed the remodel on our houseand got bored. One proj. on the cruiser led to another and I'm down to a frame off, 4 linked rear, 08 5.3L-4l60e-3sd tcase. I havent built the rear yet but I just picked up my johny joints today and will start fabbin the brackets this weekend.

i've read tons of 4 link posts but your links and axel trusses are by far the meanest.

I will have to read up on the front coil overs you used...very intresting!

Thanks for all the updates and the pics!

I think the value went up, but I think value would have been even better w/out the dovetail, IMO. The narrowed ass end, fully exposed tire thing takes it off the daily driver list, but will be awesome in the rocks for sure.
Question for you. With your fab skills, why would you spend the time with the dovetail instead of tubing it in ? Just curious.
Great job on the build.

Thanks for the compliments, and the input !!!
I have been considering raising the inner fenders, and have not welded them in yet, I plan on using a Master Craft bench in the rear for my youngster's, and the bench measures 35/36" which means it would have to sit on top of the inner fenders ..which means I would have to notch them for the seat ,once I raise them:hhmm:

as for your input on the value...I think you nailed it!!;)
