4 banger LC, thoughts?

It would be nice to see something more like Ford's 7.2kw inverter. I don't know if anyone has any info if 2.4kw is a peak inverter or if that's the continuous load rating. If it's continuous - that's plenty for a microwave or a coffee maker. I'm not sure I'd carry around a microwave unless it's in a travel trailer. But this means I can use a Keurig for the ski hill or at camp. It's a lot faster and easier than the whole jetboil kit with a percolator setup I have now. Not that what I have is bad. It just uses something the LC already has to do more stuff. I'm always in favor of being creative to get the most use out of the stuff I already have to haul around anyway.

Along those lines - I'm still waiting for an OEM to build a port in one cylinder with an air compressor feature like the old spark plug inflators. With a hybrid you could use the hybrid system to spin the engine without even needing to run it and have a super fast high volume air compressor. I've been thinking about setting up something like this on my UTV where space and weight are at a premium, but I don't think the starter motor is really designed to run long enough to fill up tires.

Of all the hybrid things - the one I think would be most useful is an ev only drive option. Even if it's just low speed for water crossings. A manual inserted plug in the intake and EV mode = cheap, easy, stress free water crossings. Make it happen Toyota!

Go back to the original post you sent that I commented on. You do you and live your dream and even start a thread and when you kill off your family when you run your camp off a CO2 generator that runs your 250 inverter that dumps exhaust directly into your tent. we'll be the judge of this last comment. I'm pretty sure it will be the latter. Especially if you need a CO2 sensor in your tent to tell you this will kill you, at minimum everything you own will smell like exhaust forever.
None of your last post is relevant to your original post. Good for you ,you have a 100 series, a generator and a RTT.
I would stick to it, or your going to have a ridiculous setup and kill off your family with what you keep trying to pitch.
And at this point I have as much experience with a 2024 hybrid 250 LC, A big fat 0%. Good for you and your Sienna, At this point, unless you have an in at the Toyota engineering division, I'm pretty sure it's irrelevant at this point as far as what they will offer on the 250 and how it will apply to this conversation.

I don’t know about anyone else, but all this 250 talk and the advances the hybrid powertrain will facilitate just makes me want to wait a bit longer for the tech to evolve and deliver me a really solid 400 Series. I looked at several GXs before I bought my 200, wanted more room and refinement at the end of the day. Before the 200 I had an LR3. Another biggun. As the saying goes, Go Big or Stay Home

I know its way too early to even think about this.
I wonder if the LC250 does extremely well in the US, could they introduce a more upmarket LC400 for the US when it launches globally and sell it side by side with the LC250 or whatever replaces that...?

I guess it would depend what happens to the Seqouia.

Rivian is doing it, GM is doing it, Land Rover is doing it, etc etc. We Americans love our large trucks and SUVs too much for any major automaker with heritage models (Tahoe, LC, Defender, Suburban…) not to advance the technologies needed to stay in the game. I’m aware that I’m not authority, but my opinion is there’s no way in hell Toyota let’s anyone else take over the top tier full size SUV/off roader. The R1S is a noble attempt and I’ll be interested in one when it gets 1000 miles to a charge. I’ll also 100% be interested in a hybrid full size LC, a PHEV version, an electric version, or a hydrogen version. I expect they’ll use their next generation technology to release a product that will be above the fray and built to be the class of its class. We trust them, we know what they’re capable of, and they have the reputation they do bc they don’t rush. No need to compete with Rivian and Cybertruck (gag) and Defender bc they just don’t command the respect that LC does. And Toyota won’t release a product that isn’t capable of commanding that same respect. It’s a long game with them. Look at the 250. We’ve all waited and wondered and watched nearly every other automaker jump into the mix to ensure they keep getting mentioned. Toyota hangs back, leaves everyone guessing, then boom, they drop the 250 and it’s like they were never gone and never in jeopardy from competition. The full size will be back with better technology than we have now, there’s no need to bring it back before that tech is ready.

I love the prospect of all of this. I've been working towards an "electric" camping kit and this could make it happen without portable solar or having to lug a separate generator.


However I too am concerned with CO exposure. I'd employ a secondary battery pack to get me through the night before I'd let an internal combustion engine run right by me. I'd run the engine during the day to charge up everything.

The times I've had a generator camping, I keep it well away from the living/sleeping area. I wouldn't trust it right next to my truck even if I was up in a RTT. There's been plenty of examples of people dying in their cars who kept them running to keep the heat on when stuck in the snow. If the outside air is still, the exhaust gases can stick around the vehicle.

CO is nothing to mess with. And for clarification, it's "CO" (carbon monoxide) not "CO2" (carbon dioxide). Carbon dioxide can displace oxygen but is otherwise harmless. Carbon monoxide on the other hand is poisonous. It's an unstable molecule that wants to be stable and so "steals" oxygen. One breathes that in and it literally takes the oxygen right out of your blood and cells. It has a cumulative effect too, can build up over days or weeks (depending on exposure). So while with 1-2 nights of exposure one might be OK, after the next night one might never wake up again.

Honestly if I were Toyota the prospect of camping in/on/around the truck would make me not want to enable the auto-generator function. Sooner or later someone will put a tent right next to a truck and off themselves. In the litigious US I'd be afraid, very afraid.

My "Toyota would be scared" comment was envisioning someone using a vehicle attached tent with the exhaust port within the envelope having this generator function enabled. Not everyone has common sense is all.


As far as inside or RTT etc. with most any air movement risk is minimal, it's just if you're just sitting (laying) there for hours and the gasses are building up due to still air things could be different.


Still I'm super excited for this and what comes next!

Couldn’t disagree more. People don’t want to pay 10% interest on loans. People will buy what makes sense to them and what their finances can bear. Maybe you don’t want an EV. And if that’s the case, don’t get one. There’s 100% a market for full size SUVs and trucks that are hybrid or electric. And just like everything else you and I have ever put out hands on, it was new at some point and the more it’s around the more familiar people will get and the more their resistance will lessen. Maybe not you, but generally speaking, yes. It’s happening already and it isn’t going to stop and it shouldn’t.

The 4cyl Hybrids Really are nice for fuel efficiency,enough power to do what’s needed and having inverters.

A Land Cruiser version is a great addition.

EV is the future, no doubt about it, until it is replaced by something else, but take up will be slow, much slower than the advance of the technology itself, for a great majority of truck fans. And manufacturers, like Ford, who do not realize this will wind up with lopsided balance sheets for a few years, until they do.

In Europe we are getting the 2.8L in the 250 and it’s not by chance because even with gas prices much higher than the States, most Europeans would have a very hard time accepting a 4 cyl engine from Toyota in a truck. And that explains in part why the 4cyl T Hybrid is only being sold in N America. It is not being sold in Japan! That fact has to resonate with a few of you here. One of the biggest new engine launches in Toyota history and the Japanese don’t want a thing to do with it. And the truck that is setting Japan ablaze is not technology forward at all…I really hate to mention this….yes, it is the new FJ70 not the 250. And I know that general wisdom says Toyota would never sell even one FJ70! Well turns out they are going to sell so many in Japan they won’t even be able to make them fast enough. So what will win out, prehistoric tech or new tech? New tech. Until its prehistoric and aging happens fast these days.

Yet I may only have a small opinion, however I’m sure many think like I do.

Loved my Old Land Cruisers. A 40/80/100 and then I Got a Hybrid. Definitely changed my opinion about what is needed and what I want.

I was leaning towards a Tundra next, with the 5.7 tried and true.

Then this 4cyl Hybrid LC 250 was provided as a available new SUV.

Like many… I barked at the idea. I wanted old school new (70! Ya) Though after a bit of time… it sank in.

Maybe we here in N/Merica are the Lucky ones?

And we are getting a fuel efficient Land Cruiser with more Power than the 100 series had.

Please, show us evidence that suggests that Toyota engineers would build a Land Cruiser, or a hybrid, or a hybrid Land Cruiser, that isn't extremely reliable.

Toyota has made the Tacoma for a while now. It IS one of the best overland options available. Reliable is an Understatement. I do not feel that Toyota would place an unreliable engine into that vehicle. That just also happen to be this 250 Prado engine.
