Those engines are bulletproof. I have a friend with an early 2000's Tundra with that engine. It is a nice size small block (284 CU).

Has anyone considered or have put one in the 40?

As a 40 and 100 owner I think that would be a great swap. I have 240k on my 4.7 and it still runs like a dream. It's been done on an FJ55 I believe maybe another mudder can post you the link I'm not so good in that department or search in the 55 preservation forum under scottryana.
Probably not the cheapest way to go but I like your thinking.

There is a Tundra with a 4.7 being parted out in Phoenix.
