Can you share any info on the LR tank? It is something I am considering for my rig.

its a 166litre capacity, it sits where the spare tyre is mounted. it uses the original sender uni. A new one is available for purchase if needed.
thats pretty much it.

New to the 80's. I've been stuck in the 40s and 60s. This was not a planned purchase but for the price she was just too nice to pass up. Saturday I picked up a 91 that was originally a west coast vehicle. Almost zero rust on the frame and a super clean body. 234,000 miles but runs ok. Interior is decent. Sorry no pictures. I was in a rush to get it in storage before the snow started flying. She'll be there till spring.

The truck has several issues. First is a really bad gear whine when accelerating. It is way louder then any FJ40 that I have driven. It goes away as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator. I suspect it is the front ring gear but I am open to other thoughts or things to check. The speedo is not working consistently. The passenger window will not work. The sun roof is SLOOOOW so it matches the acceleration. The radio has issues, I am not sure if the air is working (it was about 10 deg F when I test drove it) and the power locks do not work. My plan is to keep it stock for now, maybe put some 31 under it and get all the gremlins sorted out. I'll definitely change all the fluids and rebuild the front axle. The rear main seal leaks a bit. Any other preventative maintenance I should do? Anything special I should do to help the transmission I'll probably use it as a family camping rig and mild off pavement excursions.

Cannot wait to start the journey.

Frank

91 FJ80

New to these tanks but not to the bulletproof toyotas. Got mine with 200,000 did a complete adjust of valves and tune/flush, rebuilt frontend including Bobby's. It is now @ 240k and still running strong.

fj80grillo

Hi every body I'm new, I'm from nj, and I have a 1992 fj80 I would like to know if any body can help with a problem that I have, my drive shaft seen to be loose and make a bung sound when s*** from p. to d, or r, when I'm in the hiway after 70mhr the driving is not to smoth, when i acelerate or desacelerate makes the bump noise from the shaft. and also seen to lose power when going up hill, I don't know any goold mechanic in central nj, if any body knows one that will help, thank you,

Finally ready to check in to the 3FE clan!
Bought this rig with really low miles but very badly maintained rig. Deep Blue was left to rot under the African Sun simply because its a gasoline powered LC.

Being fond of the 80 series and always wanting to own one I took the plunge and turned it into a great DD with the advice of all the great people on MUD.

I have a 91 Land Cruiser (133,000k) with a 3FE. I Rebuilt the engine with no modifications except that I had to retro-fit the coolant line that runs along the side of the valve cover with copper pipe. It was missing the original line when I got it. Also, I almost fried the engine the second time I ran it because the oil galley plug (between the 4th and 5th spark plugs just below the valve cover) came loose and oil was streaming out. I guess the machine shop didn't replace it. I tapped a new one and JB welded a bolt in place of the plug.

I Just broke it in last night and it runs great.

Regear it to 4.88's and you can get 12 like me! ;)

Also, let's see some pictures!

I bought mine with them already installed. I saying that, it is the best riding off-road vehicle I have ever ridden in. I'd say they are worth the money.

ctrj, how do you like those fox 2.0's? worth the money?

I have been curious about them, I have been thoroughly impressed by the ride quality of the 80's suspension, even after getting the heavy springs. It rides 100 times better than my '02 taco, so much of a difference that my wife won't ride in the taco on dirt excursions! She'll get out and walk during rougher stretches! I have a feeling the fox shocks would really open up the suspension and make a big improvement in ride and handling for how I use the truck, which seems similar to what you use yours for.
