35 x 12.50's on a stock suspension. No issues with scrubbing.

Wow. They look great! Makes me think again about tire size next time I need new shoes. No issues getting them mounted on the stock wheels?

Crap. I did an "oops" they are 33's not 35's. Must have been thinking about what I actually wanted on there. No problem on a stock rim though, mine are 15's.

Awesome. They look great nonetheless and I am going with that size next time around. Any noticeable loss of power?

1992 w/ 175K on the clock. This was not a planned purchase. I just sold my 89 Grand Wagoneer with no real intensions of a replacement anytime soon. I inquired about this FJ80 the last time it was for sale about 18 months ago. When I saw it was up for sale again, I quickly decided I wasn't going to let it go this time. The previous owners took care of things like front axle rebuild, de-smog, tune up, belts etc. I added the rack, wheels and 33X10.50 tires. I've been searching & reading this site, checking it over & driving it. It's taken me to the mountain quite a few times already for PA archery season.
Near future plans include lunch box locker in the rear & winch (sitting on the bench) behind the stock bumper.

Long time admirer, first time cruiser owner. Got this '92 a couple months ago for $7,900, only 106k miles, pretty much stock except for the tires. Haven't taken the running boards off yet because I'm not sure my 5' wife would be able to climb aboard without them...then again maybe that's the best reason to take them off.

Done: replaced belts, changed valve cover gasket and spark plugs, installed CB radio and PA system, "pin #7" (CDL) modification

Need: new trunnion seals, new brakes, new oil pan gasket

Want: ARB bumper, Baja roof rack, OME suspension

I live in Denver, CO. Took it up to the mountains with my wife and daughter for the first time last month. Thought I was going to drop my transmission on my way up to Eisenhower Tunnel and then again up Vail Pass. Top speeds were in between 40-45mpg and I was in-between 2-3 the whole time, but we finally made it. Once past Vail Pass, it was back to 60-65mpg.

On the way back to Denver, Vail Pass and Eisenhower were even worse! lol
I remember saying countless times, "Please don't die on me, baby! Coach Bella says you can do it!" We made it to the top and I put Zombo in neutral for a bit on the way down.

I have checked the venders page. Does anyone have any recommendations for Land Cruiser shops in CO?

Same issues with my new '92 FJ80 going up to the mountains on I-70. I'd kill for just a little more power on this beast. I'm also looking for a good local Cruiser shop to do an axle rebuild that I just can't realistically do in my apartment building parking spot. I've heard some good things about Rocky Mountain Cruisers in Northglenn. Might want to check them out.

Hi, I'm looking for help in Bellingham, WA from anyone who has the knowledge. I've got 244K on this '91 3FE with central locking diff and 31 inch BFG All Terrains. Any local groups out here? I'd like to keep this sucker on the road.

African Adventure

So i just got my first LC ever and its a 1991 80series with the legendary 3FE engine. I guess im the first one from Tanzania on here, hopefully parts shouldn't be too much of a problem since there's alot of 80s (Diesel versions) here. I've been a little nervous about making the shift, especially since i was driving around in a 1998 Toyota JZX100 and the move to this beast certainly has left me a little skeptical about whether it was a good move or not.

Nonetheless I must say you have one heck of a LC community here and such great people on here offering their assistance and ideas. My confidence in the beast is growing and I hope I get it up to greatness that it was meant for.:grinpimp:

85 FJ60 with a 91 3FE swapped in. It's pretty stock at the moment but it runs!

Just checking in, thought I would post a few pics of my 91 super poverty pack rig in action. Factory flareless, lock rite locker, 1 inch spacer lift, Cooper tires, and a custom home made rack.

West side of Boulder Mountain area in Southern Utah.

92 3FE Midway Utah

Purchased a month ago with 192k and finally got her running today. Starting the build this week with new shocks and rims and tires. Love the forum, great info for newbies like myself who are learning. Thank you to everyone who posts, it has saved my a** several times.

Finally checking in

Just noticed this thread. Been around a while.

My wife bought her in 1999 with 90K on the clock, mine since 2005 now around 230K.

What's been done:
Alternator, water pump, 2.5 OME lift, 33's, rebuilt front axle twice (still leaks), replaced cat with pipes from Bosnal (big mistake, NEVER DO EXHAUST WORK AT HOME!).

What's going on:
ALL summer (2012) project that I think I'm almost done. Thought head gasket was bad, got head off, had bad piston (cylinder looked good), new piston, rod bearings, rings, oil pump, head machined, exhaust valves, radiator (aftermarket), injectors to witchhunter, hoses, etc. Almost have her started, I think this weekend. Here's a pic of my summer:

Before and after head shot. Can you believe those are all original, just cleaned up!:

Got some normal pics on my other computer. That'll have to do for now.

It's my toy! Great to throw a couple of canoes on top and head out to the river. And find a dry creek to ride up and down, or cross the river in several places when it's low.

Looking great and that is a lot of excellent work!

We are looking for some great pictures! Welcome!

I've got a 91' as an island truck and decided to sell a highly tuned RS6 to have a vehichle that was more usable as a DD and for adventures.... found my Tan 92' with 205k on it for 3k... mint chassis, perfect running gear and really just need new seats and mods.... and so we started... this site has been invaluable in picking my course of action - thanks to all.

So far:

ARB front bumper w w/ 12k Engo winch w/ Synth & Hella 700's
Ironman 2" lift and steering Stab
Monstaliner - white for the roof and silver for the beltline and flares
Full interior removal and over 150sf of Dynamat... painful but worth it... repalced door interiors with 95' leather door cards. Front seat are ProCar elite with Lumbar support ( they almost fit perfectly on the factory rails btw... no need for the adapter brackets if you're willing to hit the hardware store) Recovered rear seats and removed the jumpers. New wood trim and matching shifter boot and parking brake boot and full carpet kit...
Pioneer headunit with 6 1/2 Kenwood speaker in all doors and MTX powered sub in the back on a custom 4x4labs rear storage rack on the passenger side - normal version on the driver side.

Roof rack is currently a Yakima Mega Warrrior while I am getting a custom Laum one made.... will be selling if anyone is looking.....

Tires are 305/70/16 Duratracs on OEM 16's - debating going wider but she's too underpwered to go with more diameter !

Next up will be a FF rear end with disc brakes and Spartan locker likely.... and then hopefully the AJIk rear tire mount...

Love the darn thing but she sure is slow....... I figured it's about 400hp less then my old car !

cheers to all for sharing their insight, experiences and knowledge....

Great looking rig and welcome to the slow lane. It's beautiful in the slow lane and you won't miss anything. LOL

I'm a new owner of a very clean and well maintained 1991 FJ80. I searched for weeks and originally had settled on a FZJ80, until I found this one. I really liked the simplicity of it including the smaller flares and cloth interior (that looks almost new). It came with a clean car fax with all maintance listed. Got it with 146K miles and I doubt it every saw snow, dirt, mud or anything else but freeway.

It does lack power but really only noticeable on hills but I think it adds a little to the overall no nonsense, purpose built, character.

First impressions: Took it offroad completely stock and was blown away with it's capability, as were the friends I went with in thier modified jeeps. On road it feels like a tank and the gas consumption supports the feeling.

Plans/Mods: I already added powder coated 16x8 FZJ80 wheels with 305/70/16 Toyo MTs and the OME 2.5" lift kit from Sleeoffroad (not a fan of how it sits almost 2" higher in back). I would like to add new bumpers and maybe an aluminum roof rack. A light window tint because it gets hot in the car and and upgraded stereo. Down the road maybe ARB lockers but if I do that I'll probably regear it. For now I'm going to enjoy the recent mods.

Want to thank all those that share thier stories on here as this site has been extremely helpful for me during the purchasing phase and with the mods I've done.

Looking good! thanks for the pics and updates.

I just picked mine up on Sunday. A 92 with 150k and pretty much stock except for some small mods...
-OME springs with spacers and air leveling
-2wd conversion with selectable hubs
-No running boards
-stereo, alarm, and seat covers

This is my 4th Landcruiser, and I look forward to taking the slow lane.
