3FE MAF conversion - has it been done? (1 Viewer)

it is perfectly doable just like the early vaf 93-94fzj motor but it requires at least one wideband sensor and reader plus a split second or similar translator box for the maf to be able to monitor a/f ratios and tune it, plus the MAF housing and sensor. All told that is going to get close to $1000.00. someone has to buck up fior that. so far i keep blinking.

or you can go landtank's route and fab a straight line voltage inverter and hope so the earlier ecu can adapt to it without any tuning. this still really needs someone with a wideband sensor to test it since there is so little onboard fuel trim info available on obd1 vehicles.

does the 3FE stock exhaust join up before the cats? if so, at least you will only need one wide band sensor to reliably tune it. the 93-94s have dual exhaust until you are behind the cats so you really need two widebands.

The 62s have dual till after the stock placement of the cats, I assume the FJ80 is the same. If the air meter signal applies to the total engine (rather than 2 separate banks of 3 cylinders like the O2 sensors), do you really need feedback from both banks to know if you are dialed in?

maybe, but since each bank of 3 cylinders has its own fuel trim from the ecu, you should find the leaner running side to tune ther air flow signal. i would want to test both banks with a wide band to see if there is any variance, even if i did it one bank at a time to save money (which would be a pita imho).

I don't know if is the same on an fj80.

Could find someone who has deleted their cats.

I ended up nixing the cats and running one WB O2 for the Turbo setup. You are going to be getting very close readings from both sides, as there is only one intake manifold. Just my opinion of course.

you can actually place the WB after the cats provided there is no air leaks between the sensor and the engine manifolds.

The guy that I'm working with on this has wired a device into his mini truck to read values from his OBD1 ECU through his laptop. I'm hoping to do something similar when we get things closer to trials.
