What external fuel pump are folks running in a 3fe'd 40? Do you run a filter in line before the pump, then another after? Cross post

TIA

Gregg - I use an MSD 2225 in my 40. So far so good, though I probably don't have more than 1,500 miles since my conversion. I did get an extra just in case... Inline filter before pump, stock FJ80 filter after pump. Good luck!

Here is my set up.

I run the mechanical pump on the 2F the 3FE can run one too it's just blocked off with a plate I believe.
The mechanical pump feeds a surge tank which my electric fuel pump runs from. This keeps the high pressure system to a minimum and also means off road less of a chance with regards to fuel pick up issues. You don't need to upgrade the lines to and from the tank either.
You don't need to go to quite the extent I have but the principal is sound with a more standard fuel pump and the stock regulators.

This looks :grinpimp:, do you have the fuel pump cut-off wired in?

The fuel pump comes on with the ECU at ignition but only for a 3 second burst, it them requires a signal from the ECU that the engine is running to keep running or re start. There is also a manual isolator switch for emergencies, comp regs. The fuel system has a non return valve so pressure is maintained between it and the regulator when the pump is off.

Let me use the proper Toyota terminology - did you wire in the Circuit Opening Relay?

It looks like it needs signal from the Air Flow Meter in conjunction with the EFI Main Relay to power the pump.

So maybe when Air Flow Meter is closed (idling?) it cuts power to the Fuel Pump...

Or do you let the pressure regulator address this function?

Thanks!

Air flow meter what air flow meter :D

To answer the original post question, I am running the external pump found on the early EFI F-250.

I do not have current p/n or application.

I pre-filter the pump (you should see why! I'll post pics) and run a high press filter in the engine compartment from a Vortec. It has threaded connections, and is cheaper than the 3FE filter.

Oh boy, I am going to have to dig into your build thread...

Do you adress your ECU connections in your build?

The ECU runs a relay that powers the pump, the Wolfs wiring diagram is posted in there some where :D

I use a the Wolf's internal MAP sensor not the air flow meter.

Do you have any pictures of your pump and plumbing?

Where is this picture from?

Greg - I have a inline filter...between the tank and the pump. It was a old ford mustang pump. Iam now using a MSD with one fuel filter between the tank and pump. My tank is new, so I decided to just go with one filter.

Here is a very old picture of what the PO of the truck had installed. The Red line was the line to the engine.

This is my pump, obviously showing incomplete plumbing.

Picture is from the underside of my Pig - passenger side frame rail back by the tank.

It was the only picture I had on my computer at work. I'll grab pics of plumbing - complete with pre-filter and grab p/n's for pre and post filters.
