I am thinking about bringing in a couple of JDM Bj70 series for engine swaps into a couple of my40's .
Has anyone out there swapped the 3B with a auto trans into a 40.
What would the dissadvantage or advantage of the auto tranny be.
Ideally I want 5 spd but if the price is right and mileage low I wiil go with the autos just for the turbo B engine and part out the rest of the cruiser.
Last question which year and models of the 70 had the 1hz turbo or non turbo this is also what I would like for a engine swap.

are the lengths of the deisel trans similar to A440F? out of a FJ62. that's a long setup to fit in a 40 series.

Hi All:

Not only will this drive train (3B-T and auto trans & t-case) be long, you will loose the parking brake at the t-case.

But, this might actually be a nice set-up. For the parking brake source a 1979-84 BJ40/42 rear axle assembly (has a built-in p-brake at the rear axle.)

Regards,

Alan

The LC I am thinking of using for this swap is either my 82 BJ43 or my 83 BJ42 both have rear axle parking brake. I am not wanting a rock crawler just a back road explorer,my BJ62 has a auto trans and has never got stuck and offroads quit nicely thats why I am spellingcurious about a 13BT auto swap.
