37" military OZ tires

I ran these tires on the TWF recentered beadlocks for almost a year on my FZJ. As it was said, get the pressed centers, the wheels are dead true with the pressed centers. One thing that I learned as well, do not make any attempt at balancing these tires. Mine actually rode worse and vibrated more when i tried to balance them. When I took all of the BB's out of the tires, the truck rode great again, smooth up until 75mph. The tires work well for what they are, but the beadlocks are a must if you actually want to get these tires to perform. I run 6psi in mine when out on the trail, and 3psi in the sand. You can pull the cores with these tires and they will hold the truck up just with the sidewalls.

As it was said these are HEAVY. I just replaced the Goodyears with a set of 37" Pitbull rocker radials, and the Goodyears are just as heavy as the PBR's. But, I can hold overdrive with stock gears without any issue, and if you keep actual MPH arround 60-62 on the highway, you may actually see your mileage go up. You really cannot go wrong with this wheel/tire combo, especially if you are on a budget.

I've heard this before, but I get plenty of carcus flex at 19-20 psi. Not that I wouldn't like beadlocks, but they wheel fine at 20psi w/o.

o man sorry to see this combo did not work for you.I am still waiting on wheels and tiers its been a long time.I did the pressed centers and will be grooving the tiers when I get them.I will be putting my lift on this weekend and just got my winch today.I am trying to fab up a receiver in my ARB winch bumper:idea: so I can use the multi mount winch in it.I need to use the winch on car trailer to that is part of why I went with the milti.I need to call trail worthy fab to see just what the hold up is.I will try to take pix of the build up :cheers: and :beer:
 
never think to take pictures of the tires when I'm wheeling, but this is a 4x4 in the driveway, I think it flexes around it pretty good at 19 psi. It's in about 1/2 the width of the tread and the outside edge of the tire is on the ground. I don't see what all the complaining about them not flexing is about myself.

Man I like those new center caps in your pic. Those powder coated or custom chrome? Either way looks really good. Just glad you made it home ok, wish you could have been there to watch my truck start crapping pieces out the back. haha

Sorry, went back and added it. 19psi - was aiming for 20 when wheeling the other day and overshot. I'm sure they'd flex better at 15 or even 10, but without beadlocks 20 is as low as I feel comfortable with. Actually drove 40 miles home at that pressure cause I was more worried about my new center caps than refilling tires.

Those are actually pollished alluminum (tape). :) Hopefully this weekend I'll get the axle apart and figure out for sure what I blew up.

Boy, talk about tempting fate. Weekend before last I destroyed 2 tires. One majorly w/ a tree through the sidewall, the other got a nail in the sidewall on the way home!
 
maximum rated cruising speed

Anyone know about what the maximum rated cruising speed is on the MTs? Can they be driven over anything but short distances at freeway speeds?

I know that Michelin XL/XZLs are right at the edge of their rated maximum at 65mph, but they're a fair bit thicker, even compared to these.

Keep in mind that speed rating is at full load at max pressure. Even the most fully loaded 80 does not come close to a loaded HMMWV in terms of weight. I ran mind on the highway 70+mph for hours on end, and have never had a tire that ran as cool as these did.

I still have the original Military OZ's on my '96 H1 Wagon. I cant remember exact weight off the top of my head, but that truck is about 10000lbs, and it runs comfortably all day on the highway at 60mph. And they stay pretty cool at that speed. I have run them around 80mph for short distances and they stayed on the rim.... not much fun to drive at that speed though.

They are LOUD. I will be replacing them this year with something a little more dual purpose, as I dont wheel the rig (that hard) it is more a pull truck for trailers in and out of my hunt camp.
 
Thats funny you say that i was surprised at how quiet they were. I guess Im just used to swampers. lol
 
These tires are running 65mph plus on the worst roads in the non-developed world frequently under an up-armored HMMWV way north of 10000lbs. You will shake your truck to pieces before they 'blow'.
I have seen these tires work very well on our military trucks in Iraq and Afghanistan, under the harshest of conditions. The XZLs are also very stout, safe tires. You would not believe the amount of testing and requirements these tires must meet to be considered for constant use on these vehicles.My$.02

Here's a pic of my 80 with 37x12.50x16.5 Goodyear R/T II with custom welded Toyota centers etc. I have not wheeled these...haven't even decided wether or not to use them at all. The second pic is almost the same rim set up (different rings), and on a different truck. Thought I'd share :cheers:
