Looking to put 33 or 35 inch tires under the FJ45 - and already speaking with Deaver Suspension for some progressive soft leaf springs for it.

What height is needed to clear 33s?
What height is needed to clear 35s?

I know it's a painfully simple question. I've already lifted my Jeep TJ to clear 35s so I'm not a newbie to modifying, just a newbie to the FJ40 series :)

Would also appreciate pictures of your rigs on 33s or 35s.

Thanks

I ran 33's when i was sua , now i run 35 soa it depends on what gear ratio your running. 4.56 if your 35's on the hiway,33's in. tires are max for 4.11 gears. so it depends weather you are driving on the hiway more then on the trail .

It is all a matter of preference, and what you are going to be doing. I am running 33's on both my 40 and my 55, and like it.

I'm going to be running 35x10.5x15 and 3.5 Alcans on my FJ45. Got the tires and springs. Just need to do the install now.

Happy to re-gear, done that with the Jeep already.

Thanks for the info... still would like to see more pics / specs of FJ40-series with 35s. I think given the length of this vehicle I'd rather have the 35's helping break-over and departure angles in the dunes a little bit.

On my FJ40 I ran 33s with a 2.5 inch lift, 35s with a 4 inch lift. Spring over, it fits 37s fairly easily.

Gear to match tire size, but 4.88 works for everything.

Perfect :) Looks like 3.5" lift and 35" tires is the stance I like the best. Big, but not too tall :)

I have a 4inch lift with 33's. For 35's i would go with a 4inch and extended shackles, wont look too big, but SWEET!

SUA w/2.5" lift springs and extended shackles...go team SUA :D

another nice thing about not being too tall, is you can always go back to 33s when your too tired of pulling yourself up when your 80 :p

hth,
manny

hehe... 80 is a long way off... this 1982 FJ45 is older than I am :)

Just want it to have some stability for the long road trips, which is why I don't want to go too high. How much height would the shackles have given you?

I got a 2" spring lift on the front and a 2" shackle lift on the rear. I rum 285/75/16's (33x10.50) and the front tires rub on the steering linkage and the top of the fenders when they are fully stuffed.

The speedo runs about 10% slower than actual.

This is not an absolute. I've run 4.11 gears with 36" and with 37" tires. No problem on the highway or trail. Yes, accelleration could be better on the street but with a 383 SBC under the hood it does ok. ;)

not familiar with length of original shackles, but I believe mine are 5 or 5 1/2 center-to-center.

If you want stability, I would seriously consider extending your wheel base.
Add shackles-at-an-angle, and you'll have the best of both worlds... comfort and stability :)

try searching on flipped springs...you will be surprised how much of a difference extending your WB makes.

I've got 35s on the wife's 45 with a 2 1/2" lift and they clear fine. I gave her the choice of 33s or 35s and she's happy with the 35s.

if your even thinkning about 35 go 35 because youll wished that you would have done it first time.

Extending the wheelbase!?! It's an FJ45 Pickup not a SWB FJ40. Think the wheelbase should be fine! :)

Only 2.5" lift? Is it on-road-only or does it go off road too? Pics would be great :)

I have a 1964 FJ40 I was wondering if I could put some 34" swampers tires without putting a lift kit, will it rub? anyone know? Thanks
