315X75r16 .... why is everything load range E?! (1 Viewer)

Just get whatever tire you like in the load range that is available and let the air out until it reaches your requirements.

FWIW, I tore a LARGE and DEEP chunk of sidewall out of my E-rated Hankooks and was amazed it didn't go all the way through. Very thick carcass. Anything less and that tire would have been toast. I can see the advantages of lighter weight, but compliance isn't worth the trade off for durabillity--just lower the tire pressure and it will do what a D or C will do. That's just my $.02 anyway.

Agree. Be cognizant of your vehicles weight, and how it is distributed. Buy the load range you need. Adjust pressures to suit weight capacity, traction, tread ware, and comfort. That's my order of preference.

I run E rated tires at 32 front/32 rear on a 6000# (50/50) 80 series. I could probably drop down to a D rated tire.
I run E rated tires at 45 front/50 rear psi on a 7000# (45/55) F250. I run these higher than necessary as my load changes often, including towing.

I’ve got to chime in on this as well...

1992 80 series

I too have been way overthinking this 10ply E rated versus 8ply D rated tire thing... slightly different sizes but the same questions tho... I’m running at 35x12.50R18 D rated BFG KM2. These have been an excellent tire on all fronts, tread life, wear pattern, quiet on road, and awesome aired down characteristics...
So, for the sake of wanting to try something new and not willing to wait till the KM3’s come out I figured I would try the Cooper SST pros but they are only offered in a 10ply E rated... in the size I need... 305/70r18. So then I think I’ll stay with the km2’s??

I feel Toyota’s just don’t need 10ply tires. I off road enough but most miles are on the pavement and the 10plys seem to always ride rough... and if u air down on pavement to get them to ride nice I feel u are sacrificing good wear pattern... or maybe not...?? I’ll gladly take any opinions on these 2 tire choices as I’ll be buying a set very soon...

Cheers guys! :)

My E rated tires are 38psi in front & 36psi in rear. I did the chalk test for wear pattern & this is where they wear perfectly even.

Interesting that the STT Pro is a D rating for the 37" x 17

I think I am going to go with Maxxis Bighorn's. They're cheap and in 315/75r16 they are D. Not my first choice, but they'll fit the bill.
