Don't know anything about motorauthority, so not sponsoring this article, but says as follows:

"While rumors abounded earlier this year that the slow-selling SUV might not come back for another act, Toyota senior VP of Automotive Operations Bill Fay assured Motor Authority that the company is committed to keeping the nameplate in U.S. showrooms. The new Land Cruiser, due in 2021 (just in time for the nameplate's 70th anniversary), is expected to ditch the long-running V-8 in favor of a 6-cylinder engine, likely turbocharged. Electrification is also likely, but no formal plans have been announced. "

This may have been posted earlier, if so, sorry about the repeat but I don't live on here. Take this info for what its worth.

300 series revealed?

I took the ? mark in OP's title to mean could this be a clue if true. Like...he's not sayin he's just sayin. 18Cruiser prove a fellow 18 Cruiser owner wrong!

OP said the 300 series was revealed (without the question mark) back in summer of 17!

And ever since that day, this thread has trolled everyone who clicks on the thread expecting to see anything, anything, related to the 300.

Great info. V6 TT or V6 Hybrid, makes sense in the next LC from what we have been hearing. Appreciate the tip

Important to remember, the "scoop" (Lexus-only 300 for U.S.) came much later (August) than the "foreseeable future" remark from Bill Fay (April). A business plan can change in 4 months. Unfortunately, the 300 series has not yet been revealed. The V6 assumption is nothing new, it was a rumor before this thread was created.

i’ll see Your 2017 thread and raise ya right on back to **February 2016!** :hillbilly:

We’re at least 3.5 YEARS into this speculation...

300 Series Threads from the CRYPT...

this thread is starting to move towards Chat as well :)

I just read it because I want to see what's being said. I have zero expectations of learning anything meaningful.

Ya, but if zapped...we’ll just get yet another new 300 thread every few days from new folk who think they have “news...”

Still say pin it with a snarky title like...
“300-Series “News” & other BS:hillbilly:

300 series will be a rebadged BMW X7 🤣
Of course, wouldn’t want to give Toyota any ideas....

That would be hideous. If that were the case scratch the 300 off my list for next vehicle.

As reference the new Supra is already off my list for next possible fun car. If I wanted a BMW and pay BMW maintenance ad repairs fees, I would get a Z4.

The current monster Tundra V8 engine option we got in the USA was pretty much a USA exclusive. There's 200 series in other countries that currently have straight 6 engines. So going back to 6 cylinders won't be any shame. The current 3UR-FE is pretty obscene.

Do people salivate elsewhere for our v8, as Americans salivate over the turbo diesel 6 cyl ?

There have been NO 200 series trucks (Toyota or Lexus) with an I-6 engine. They are all V Iterations:

URJ200 (3UR-FE, 5.7L Petrol, V-8)
URJ202 (1UR-FE, 4.6L Petrol, V-8)
VDJ200 (1VD-FTV, 4.5L Diesel, V-8)
GRJ200 (1GR-FE, 4.0L, Petrol, V-6)
UZJ200 (2UZ-FE, 4.7L, Petrol, V-8)

The 1HZ 4.2L I-6 is still available for 3rd world markets and NGO’s but that’s in the 7x series vehicles.

The current 3UR-FE is pretty obscene.

Whatever the displacement and cylinder configuration, the hp/tq numbers of the 3UR were and are necessary to be competitive in this market.

With Toyota’s tendency toward conservative (aka reliable) engine design, at the time their best way to hit those numbers was with the 3UR. So no, not obscene at all. Pretty much necessary, IMO.
