Roping the windows works great, if your real picky its hard to mask the upper rubber(roof top to side rubber) perfect you almost have to come into the rubber a tinny bit. Otherwise this method does work well.

Like that colour alot.

11 hours on the lpb today....8 of them wet sanding.

It was a really nice day so I had the truck outside while I wet sanded. Went good, just took all day to do it. I had my neighbor come over and help me lift the box off and back onto the stand so I could wet sand behind the cab. After I was done sanding I wheeled the box and backed the truck into the booth. Spent about 3 more hours back taping this evening. Still have a couple more hours of taping to go, but plan on starting again the morning. I remember seeing my body man buddy using some rope one time around weather stripping before he painted. I used some 1/4" nylon rope and pulled out the weatherstripping and stuffed it behind there. Allows the paint to get in behind the weatherstripping vs up against the edge of the weatherstripping.

bed liner / paint question

I am thinking of using the tintable bed liner stuff after seeing your amazing results. But I was curious about how you cut in when spraying the final base color/clear. Do you cut in slightly over the tinted bed liner? And if so, how does that effect the finish on the bedliner where you spray it?

Snuck out of work a little early, around 3 pm so I could get going on the lpb. About 3.5 hours this evening.

Picked up another gallon of base before I headed for home. Once I got home I sanded a couple nubs of dust out of what I had sprayed yesterday and then shot 2 more coats of base. After those additional 2 coats it looked perfect. So, waited about 45 minutes and shot 2 good coats of DCU2021.

Pics pretty much say it all, I think it turned out pretty nice. Of course I still have to start sanding clear tomorrow with 1500, but I think it layed down pretty nice and looks good for not evening sanding yet. Took a few pics before I pulled some of the paper and a couple after. Have to wait until tomorrow before I can open the doors and pull the rest of the tape.

Plan tomorrow night is to sand out to 1500 and start buffing.....

When I spray the base/clear I just run the overspray and blend it into the bed liner. In the pics above I took a couple pics of the edges of the bed where the paint meets the bedliner.

As far as how it effects the finish? Might be a tad glossier along the edge where you sprayed right away, but after a few drives and washes you can't tell where it starts and ends.

Very, very durable stuff...I would highly recomend it to anyone.

how many gallons did you use of the SEM on that truck... how much do you think I will need to coat that 40 tub inside and bottom and under the front fenders ??? how much do you pay for a gallon up there?

Looks great!

I went to cord the windows on the wife's car to paint and didn't have any, used some phone/cat 5 cable that was laying around, worked great, like it better, cheap, slides right in and doesn't have any lint.

Got a late start tonight on the lpb, but about 3.5 hours......all color sanding clear with 1500 grit.

And that's about it, took a couple pics, but nothing special. Sand more clear and then sand some more. Might have another hour if that of sanding tomorrow night, but should be onto buffing.

I've use 4 complete kits on the lpb so far and I am going to need to get another one so I can use about a 1/4 of it for the tailgate.

You probably could squeak by with 2, but I would plan on buying 3 and using 1.5 on the bottom and fenders. Then the other 1.5 inside the tub.

The local autoparts store sells it to me for $159 a kit, which basicly is a gallon kit.

Had a friend of mine come over this evening and give me a hand with buffing. So, with 2 buffers running and 2 guys...about 4.5 x 2 = 9 hours.

Pics pretty much say it all, I took one side and he took the other. Just started on the front and slowly worked to the back buffing what I had sanded out yesterday. Happy with the results, should turn a few heads.....

Not sure if I can work on anything tomorrow, but maybe hoping to get a box back on in a day or so then start some assembling.

The color is more. They get about $90 bucks a gallon for MTK single stage ureathane if it was completely mixed...but, they need to leave out the binder. My local guy charges me a couple bucks less that a full gallon, but not much.

Keep in mind that the color without the binder can do about 4 gallons at the recomended 8 to 1 ratio.
