Has anyone pulled out a 2UZ from a 100 series before ?
Can I just pull the motor or is it better to take the engine and trans together?
I'm thinking it might be hard to get it back on the trans later ?
Also is it easier to undo it at the end of the trans rather than the bell housing ?
Has anyone pulled just the motor and got it to go back in ok ?

Thanks in advance.

I have pulled the V8 without the transmission/transfercase. Not hard at all to get out or back in. I did undo the hood struts so I could clear the radiator support.

Thanks , only have a couple of exhaust bolts to go amd it should come out finally!

Just swapped the motor in mine as well, believe it or not the hardest part was the transmission lines on the bottom passenger side that attach to the motor.
Maybe I just have big hands but those were not easy to get off and almost impossible to get back on.
I pulled mine in an afternoon and my brother and I rebuilt the starter, did a full tune up and reinstalled the motor in a day.
Good luck!

Did you pull the motor just to do the starter ?
Mine is left hand drive , maybe that will make the trans lines easier to get too ?
Thanks for the help

No, just did the starter on the new motor before it went in.
Unfortunately if the trans lines are in the same place it may be more difficult due to the steering shaft. its the trans cooler lines that connect to the radiator that gave me troubles. I raised the motor a bit and was able to get them out but this Didn't work when reinstalling.

Il have a look when I get home . Thanks

@benc @ton504 I see you've pulled both a 2UZ.

I'm getting ready to pull my 07LC 2UZ-fe VVt engine.

I too would like to just pull the engine, without the transmission/transfer case assembly. I can see why the FSM recommends pulling complet drivetrain as one assemble. But I'm constrained on room and will be doing job sole, so just pulling engine would be best.

A few areas I'm concerned with, that it would be great if you guys would give me your thoughts on:

1) AC compressor & front line. (I don't have a recovery system)
Disconnect AC compressor from engine leaving in bay or just keep it the on engine?
I'd like to get the front AC HP line out of the way to reduce risk of damaging, or is that necessary?

2) Engine wire harness.
How did you handle engine wire harness; keep on engine or leave in rig?

3) Transmission cooler lines.
Would it be possible to leave transmission line attached to engine and just disconnect from transmission or would they get in the way?

Any other tips and tricks you can offer?

Thanks!

@2001LC

I pulled just the engine and left everything.

1) I had access to a recovery/charging system at the time so I had it out the way.

2) My replacement engine had the harness intact so I just dissconnected the harness from the ecu behind the glove box.

3) I removed the brackets from the engine and left the lines in the truck.
