Locals don't go to Wicked Weed anyway. It's mainly a tourist hotspot since it's right along the main beer strip. And it's always busy. I get discounts at Hi-Wire if anyone wants to get their pregame on.

Is there plenty of height clearance on the trail tree wise? Don't want to rip my foxwing off.

LOL, once bitten...................

Mile marker 8 route 40 is on the Tennessee side correct? Never been on this trip.

Look about right?

MM 8 on TN side would put you in the Nutbush neighborhood of Memphis. There is some wheeling there if you like muddin, but a little bit different scenery than NC 8.

^^ *gulp* :)

@pkniland and @jdayment and all:

I have cancelled my night stay on THU the 25th in downtown Asheville. Looks like we are heading down Friday AM now, due to our daughter now NOT going with us. We can meet anyone Friday for lunch anywhere in the general area.

But . . We are thinking about doing some @jfz80 -style "off the beaten path" camping in the forest vs paying for a state park, etc.

Looking at the Harmon Den area, so anyone @Izzyandsue or others who have remote camped there, let us know of any good spots etc?

We may also just try to walk-in at Davidson Creek or other areas. We would like to camp as near Hurricane Creek as possible Friday night.

Jamie, you got any maps or way to load GPX files? Send me an email to izzyandsue@yahoo.com and I can send you routes with possible camps I have scouted

copy pasted from dubbinchris from ohio post...

Right on 40 theres a spot at cold spring creek rd exit just inside the NC line. Go South on 288 gravel access rd. Cross river and follow gravel look for uphill left in the middle of a right bending switch back on gravel. That left dead ends at a nice riverside campsite but rocky/Rooty if pitching a ground tent.

Email sent - thanks Izzy!

The more I look around and find stuff like this:

Google Maps

Notice the xmas lights in the pics.

I get a little nervous :)

Yeah, I have no clue how to get to the trail head either. I'll do some research when I get time after work tonight.

Do not worry about the trail head.

We are meeting at the rest stop on Rt 40 West at 9AM. It is right about MM10. We will all proceed to aprox MM8 where HC starts from there.

I'm looking to camp near the trail head . . . possibly. Heather is having second thoughts this AM :)

Just so you know, or put it on Google Maps or whatever:

We have room here Jamie

That would be awesome, Stan. We are reconsidering going down THU again, though. . . . We would like to spend at least a full day in the Brevard / Asheville area. I shouldn't be filling up this post with my wild ideas :) I just need to get stuff done and follow the plan :)
