Yoda1 Performance, here in CA-they have been around for generations (using Toyo parts when avail). Nick is their f/2f specialist. There is also Classic Cruisers in CO, BTB in Reno, NV, and as stated previously "Mosely" in TN, but I don't know if they are taking new builds yet. Shipping to Classic, and Mosely from CA is about $800 one way so keep that in mind. All three motor builders spent a great amount of time with me answering my questions and describing their (machining) process and willingness to help!

I just had mine rebuilt so quotes were approx $4800-6800. In the end I went with who Georg of Valley Hybrids (@orangefj45) referred me to. Yoda1 had my motor rebuilt in approx 5 weeks and the are near by.

I wonder which, of those you cited (Thank You Very Much) do the rebuilds for Man A Fre?

BTB is ManAFe.

They were just as helpful but in the end I went with local so I didn't have to ship. Mosely (@FJ60Cam) was more than willing to take on my F because it has such low miles but they really shine with the 2F-then I lost his number :(. CC was willing to take the whole truck (so I didn't have to pull the motor myself) and even sent me their shipper info who was making the trip from CA to CO. BTB is 3.5 hours from my door but then Georg rang after his his trip to TX helping other Mudders and we spoke. Both Valley Hybrids and Yoda1 are 1 hour from my door.

We’ve been using Yoda-1 in Riverbank CA for a while and have been very happy with the quality of their rebuilds.
Mosley motors is also a great resource. Those would be my top two choices for sure.

What did you end you end up paying for the rebuild with Yoda1, and was it just a stock rebuild? All new parts? Chevy valves in head? PM if for some reason you dont feel comfortable posting actual figures on the forum.

Thanks,
Evan

Evan,Keep in mind each build will differ depending on need also those numbers were based on 6-8 months ago. My OEM build started at $4800 but ended closer to $5800 due to additional machining I had them do (manifold, flywheel etc) and there was less internal damage than previously thought on a seized motor.

Yes it is a stock rebuild F motor with 35k miles-long story. No Bowtie valves-OEM. Each week they posted the progress of the rebuild but most of it was waiting for parts from various vendors. F-motor parts are getting scarce btw.

But man, a Mosely F motor rebuild, that would have been sweet!

Hope that helps

Thanks for the honesty! I just have a hard time wrapping my head around a stock rebuild on a 2F for $6k. I kinda get it though, supply/demand/CA labor costs, specialty equipment, corner on market, etc. Gotta pay to play i guess.

Yep, even for our 3rd gen T4R it's around $5k. If they weren't Toyo's, it would be less, but then again, not last 280k miles and 21 yrs either! Our FJ40 is 51 years old so $6K over 51 years isn't so bad. ($118 a year) (At least that's how I sold it to my wife/budget maker) :)

pm sent

Thanks for the all the great feedback, I'm considering having my motor/carb gone through in the near future as well. Would love to send it to Nolen honestly

Empire Engines in Albuquerque is another option. Bryan and his crew rebuilt the 3FE in my '86 FJ60 and currently rebuilds the Land Cruiser engines for Classic Cruisers.
