For a 78 2F Engine. The 2 closest cylinders to the firewall have a compression of 100, the others are 125.

Thinking I need to rebuild the engine.

What rebuild kit do you recommend and where do you recommend buying it

I would recommend a cylinder leakdown test before you make the decision to rebuild the engine.

Results from the leakdown test will show you where your engine is losing compression, and it could very well be a quality valve job will be all that's required.

I have no idea what that would cost. What is a quality valve job typically run?

It depends on what they find when they disassemble and inspect your head.

Usually a shop will mill the head very slightly to clean the surface. If it's warped, they'll need to take more off.
How are the valves? Do any need to be replaced?
How are the valve seats? Can they all be ground, or do some need to be replaced.
How are the valve guides?

You will of course replace the valve stem seals, but they are usually fairly cheap. If your components are in good shape, I would think a few hundred bucks. In my experience (not with 2F engines) usually a few valves need to be replaced and some guides will as well, but anything more than that is rare. From memory, the last valve job on a Chrysler 360 Industrial engine was around $600, and one on a Chevy 454 was about $450. Both of those are V-8 engines so two cylinder heads each as opposed to one, and 16 valves each as opposed to 12.

I was just quoted 3500 to 4500 for a full valve job!!! WTF! That includes him doing the reassemble!
