Trying to picture this on my head but have you got both the water cooler lines for the turbo in the thermostat housing? One above the thermostat and one below it? Will that work as when the thermostat is open, wont both lines be getting simlar pressure from the water pump so might not circulate as little pressure difference? Cant you take it like the LPG conversion with in and out of the heater core for instance?
The turbo only needs water really to cool it when it's just been shut down and it's heat soak is at it greatest with no oil flowing. You can run these with out the water lines connected. Oil however is essential. It's not an ideal way of connecting it but the water in the lines act to dissipate the heat away from the turbo once shut down and the water pump is off then anyway. So really its hot water rises replaced by cooler water. Turbo timers allow the turbo to cool off before you shut the engine down but this is more to do with time than extra water flowing through it. Turbo timers are great as long as you are not upside down at comp, I have seen a couple of engines destroy themselves after the ignition has been turned off after a roll only for the turbo timer to keep it running, OOOOPPPPPS and most you can't override once the turbo timer has taken over.
We will not be running a turbo timer![]()
You have the expertise around you, I'm sure for someone to build a loop of metal hard line. Off of that make one end to fit the thermostat and the other to fit the water pump. I think there would be room. Just come up off the waterpump fairly straight up, then make a loop up and around towards the alt. and then come back in level to the thermostat. Then you will have little chunks of hose connecting it.
Might be funky looking, but it would work, and would probably be easier than sourcing the molded hose.
Looking good though, intercooler mount is pretty neat. You had mentioned earlier that the hood may have to be modified, but it looks like you got everything tucked in very nicely.
Awesome build Matt
My turbo timer has a manual override/stop on it. Once you get used to it you don't have to even think about it to operate it.
G'day Matt,
Not to detract from all of your fine work thus far, but that key chain is absolutely terrific!! Where did you get it? Do I need to go to Melbs to pick one up, or are they purchasable on the web? There is no way anything can go wrong now with a key chain like that.... too easy.
Cheers,
Josh
