Finally, bout to get some Rock Warriors on my 09 lx and trying to decide what size tires I want to purchase. I am leaning towards the taller of the 2 which is the 285/75 because like most on here, I want the most clearance when mall cruising. I however, don't want to do any major trimming. I don't mind the taking a mud flap off here and there, and maybe some very minor trimming.. Anyone running this size on a stock LX? Any pics of lx/trimming of inner-fenders if needed? Been searching for awhile, but only see a bunch of land cruisers with the rock dubs running the 285/70 size.. Thanks in advance..

With 285/70/17 I had to trim the rear of the front mud flaps a little so it would not rub at full lock. With 285/75/17 I bet it will have more rub and will need more trimming and massaging. However if I were to do it again I would probably have gone with the 75 and a bit more trimming.

Split the difference and run 275/75/17?

One of my main concerns is that the taller tire might rub on the control arm... But that probably should not be a concern since both are the same 285 width and from what I have researched the tire making contact with the upper control arm is due to a wider tire and not a taller one... Anyone can confirm?

A tall and skinny tire could rub on the upper arm also. I run a 275/65/20 ko2 which claims to be 34.1" diameter and it rubs slightly at full lock. There are others here that had no issue with this same tire size.

The 285/75 is a tad smaller than a 34" tire, something like a 33.5" IIRC, so hopefully that difference allows it not to rub on uca....I realize that the difference between the 285/70 and the 285/75 tire sizes are very marginal and really wouldn't make a difference, but the smaller of the 2 just seems a tad bit too small for a huge bulky 200 series, that's why I want the bigger if the 2...looks....

I agree, go for the largest tire!

Trimming hints here - Trimming Wheel Well for Larger Tires

I'm running a 305/55/20 which is 33.2", and wider. Vs your 285/75 which is typically a 33.8" tire. I vote for the taller tire over more senor lift (if any at all).

You should be fine with upper arm clearance as the RW wheels are 50mm offset vs stock at 60mm offset.

Totally doable, and the trimming strategies might be really close to the same on account of your narrower tires and higher effective offset causing less "swing" as the tire turns. I'm running 1" spacers which make my effective offset ~35mm.

I’ve been looking hard at what is necessary for 34.5+ on the lx. None of this is confirmed on my rig yet, so just reading and speculation and meta. I’ve been ignoring any trimming that can be done within reason by hammer heat gun or shears.
305 is successful with spacers
33 is successful with sensor lift
Somewhere around 34+ Adjustible control arms and 4.88 gears become a recommendation if not a requirement.

It seems likely a 35 tall 265 with a small spacer (maybe no spacer?) would fit without arms. Won’t fix the gearing though.
A 275 looks to require a spacer and possibly arms.
285 spacer and arms likely required
305 and other wider definitely spacer and arms, people begin to look at flares too

Would love to hear more from folks running larger sizes on the actual changes made.

Also in favor of ground to top of tire actuals. My current 275/65/18 measure only 31” or so on the truck, but calculators say 32”.

What are your end-goals for wanting to run a 35?

Don't get caught up in this. It's futile with measurements that really don't translate as the methodology is suspect. Manufacturers use set procedures to measure such that we can compare apples to apples.

More ways to burn money.:meh:

I’m currently looking for a skinny 33. I don’t want to get into arms and gears at the moment.

But I did take a long look at what could be involved in 35s

I'm running a 34" x 11" R 20 tire, I had to remove front mudflaps, run 1/2" spacers in front and do a fair bit of trimming to be rub free. I imagine I would have to do a significant amount of additional trimming for a 35 unless I could find a super skinny 35.

285/75R17 fit my LC without UCAs, but I have +25 offset wheels. You might be fine, but +50 RWs are 1" inboard, so you might need spacers. 285/70R18 is the same size (within 0.1").

I rubbed all the places @TeCKis300 did and more. Lower offset helps with the UCA but causes more rubbing as the tire has a slightly wider arc to it. Yes I have an LC, not an LX, but in general I think the rubbing is the same except for the KDSS bar. On a LC anything over 34" will rub the KDSS bar without a relo kit, but the LX doesn't have that issue.

I still rub the passenger side sway bar at full lock. I'm not sure if that's because my UCAs are set to +2 degrees and the LCA cam bolts used for fine-tuning or what. Many others rub that spot too, though mine is annoying enough my wife noticed that a full left turn lock vibrates the steering wheel as the tire lugs hit the sway bar. YMMV - I'll be curious to see your results

I believe @mcgaskins is running a 34" KO2 on his LX.
Also, @DeckerT4R was running a 285/75/17 before he sold his truck.

LX570 AHC height modifications (lift it!)

You will for sure need to trim the front wheel well liners. I removed the side steps so plenty of room to the rear of the front wheels.
That will be my next tire size. 33s (32.7s) just don't satisfy.

285/70r18 is sadly not a common size. Neither is 265/75r18 or 265/80r18. And none will fit rws, I didn’t mean to hijack this thread.

Get 34s :)

Now you have me thoroughly confused. RW's (TRD Rock Warrior wheels) are 17" wheels, so, of course, none of the 18" tire sizes you mention will fit. Am I missing something?

Yep straight up hijack. Diameters yes, radius no. There’s a gif for this, but I can’t figure out how to embed it.

If you're looking for maximum clearance, then the 285/75r17 is the way to go. You may have to do some minor trimming of your inner fenders and mud flaps, but nothing major. There are plenty of people running this size tire on a stock LX, so you shouldn't have any issues.
