About to take the plunge on my 2000 LX470 (AHC removed and replaced with OME 1.5" medium lift kit) For those of you who have already done this, how much has the handling changed for good or bad?

Thanks!

Chuck

Much stiffer if your going to an E Load 10 Ply. Upside is flats and sidewall damage are a thing of the past.

I went from the stock 275/70R16 Michelin LTX M/S to 285/75R16 BFG KO2's (load range E) on my hundee and couldn't be happier. Didn't notice any significant difference in steering or braking. Unless you go with a really aggressive M/T I'd think you'd have similar results.

I had OEM LTX & stock suspension, and when I upgraded to Toyo R/T 285/75/16, there was a difference in ride quality. It rode stiffer, and I feel there is a little less body roll. But of course, it still feels like a boat nevertheless. Acceleration did suffer, but braking feels about the same. I personally like the way it handles and rides after the new tires.

I too have a 2000 LX. I swapped over to Landcruiser takeoff torsion bars and coils and went to 285 75 16 Michelin LTX MS2. I thought I would be driving it as a daily driver and doing more mountain trips. Turns out the dear wife still has it and will likely be driving it for a long time. City cruiser now and always. She is very picky about handling and the ride. I am down to about 29 psi to soften the ride and get the tread to wear even.
Slower acceleration, probably slower to stop. Less worries about flats or sidewall damage.
If was to do it again, stock or a smaller 255 tire in about 32" tall if I could find one. I like the narrower tires.

I just put 285's on my LX470 (but kept the AHC). Honestly....can't tell any difference. Maybe the slightest decrease in acceleration from a dead stop. I am happy with them. The 285's I put on (Yokohama Geolandar GO15) are a full 20 lbs. heavier (per tire) X 5. So I've added some weight. But...it is an upgrade that will serve me well.

Thanks all, I have an OME medium 1.5" lift suspension on my LX470 and swapped the OME Nitro Sport shocks for stock. Sounds like the 285/75R/16 KO2s will be a winner. I'm 90% daily driver and 10% light off road.

I LOVE my ~33" BFG KO2s, but I feel like there's a pretty big hit on braking and acceleration compared to my stock sized winter tires. I think ride quality is similar, perhaps more firm with the KO2's firmer sidewall.

I put on tons of highway miles and occasionally off-road. The 275/70/18 BFGs are awesome on the highway. I just drive slower and give myself space to make up for my (perceived, at least) decreased braking capability. It makes my other car feel more like a rocket-powered race car so it all evens out, haha.

Go for it and enjoy those beefy tires.

Agreed 100%. After I install my 33" Toyo R/T, the LC felt like an old dog. When I took my IS-F out the other day and WOT, my hands were shaking at the end of the drive. I find myself driving the LC a lot more because it'll keep me from killing myself. lolol.

So I just need to put on one of those TRD superchargers to make up for the loss of power :)

285s are definitely an improvement in my opinion. Yes, a bit slower acceleration, but it’s a 4x4, not a Ferrari! I’m currently sampling 255/85-16s and the steering is noticeably lighter than with 285s, but it’s not quite as stable feeling. I may go back to 285s when these wear out. Like in 5 years:)
