went to the local upholstery shop and got a quote for my interior. $2500 gets me a new carpet kit installed, headliner, new front, passenger and rear seats (no third row). Is this too much? Anyone know where I can get a carpet kit. According to them it was gonna be $950. If i can locate one on the cheap than I can make this interior resto happen for a lil cheaper.

For 2500 buy another truck with clean interior and ruff outside and still have lots of parts left over. Lot of wrecked or rolled trucks pop up. I guess you way would make it nice but man thats a lot of dough.

Metric TLC sells new seat covers. There are a bunch of people parting out 80 series so look for one close to you with clean carpet in the color you want. Shipping the carpet would be a HUGE pain. The factory stuff has a heavy backing on it for heat and sound proofing.

No more a waist of money than any mod done other than PM. I have no idea if that is a good price or not, but I wouldn't mind the inside of my LC completely redone. I plan to do seats, might be able to salvage carpet with a good cleaning.

Carpet fits in two relatively small boxes. I know because I have mine sitting in my attic (need to sell it...). :p

The jute is glued to the floor, you'll get some with carpet that's been yanked but should plan on replacing it as it'll be fairly mangled. There are a couple good options out there for that.

I am going to suggest you have your interior professionally detailed and then just order new leather for the seats from a vendor like aatlas @ metric tlc. That's too much money to spend on just the interior IMHO that could be used to catch up other baseline or preventative items.

Unless the carpet is just worn through I would try to have it detailed first and if that didnt brighten it up then pull the carpet and deep clean it out on the driveway. For $2500 you can buy another truck. Its in the same territory as its $2500 to replace my engine/transmission/etc... Do you replace that or find yourself a parts truck and start piecing them together?

Factory carpet is still available in the brown color..... CDan at American Toyota ....you can find him on the Mud,,, it will run $890.00 for the front and rear section..shipping was $34.00. Headliners... depending on the year of your truck....later models had a fiber board backing ....the old stuff peels of and if you want vinyl, its pretty cheap... glues right on.. but the sunroof must be remove to recover the sunshade,,, big PITA.
Front and second row leather kits run around $1300.. Looks and feels like factory.....IPOR stocks the kits or you can buy direct from the vendor on the mud for the same cost .....So your guys not to far off the price at $2500...
The carpet is easy to install.... The leather and headliner... I had a pro do my leather and I did my headliner...
We'll look forward to your progress

My fzj is a truck I have been wanting to drive since I was a kid. To me it is like a dream car. I don't do any wheeling so bumpers and sliders and lifts etc would'nt really be necessary. Plus, if you are doing arb, metaltech sliders etc. those things can be hella pricy too! $2500 I realize is a s*** ton of money but it would make my truck really look amazing and not to mention put a smile on my face. I am still hesitant though as I don't spend a sum of money like that without a lot of thought. As for buying a parts truck, we all know that a $2500 fzj80 only turns into a $5000 fzj80 real fast don't they? haha...We all spend tons of money on our rigs jus some choose to spend it differently. Thanks for all the posts, I'll keep you guys updated!

ps- still looking for a grey carpet kit for sale

how much for your carpet kit? is it grey (fingers crossed)?

It's the LX carpet, so whatever color you call that. It was a soccer mom's truck until I got it, so hasn't seen very hard use. The only real bad stain is one on the cargo area carpet where there's a pretty good sized one, but other than that I'd call it pretty good given the age.

Here's the only pic I could find of the carpet, kinda gives you a little bit of an idea of how it looks.

I *THINK* I even have all the floor mats for it, but would have to check. They're all Lexus branded tho.

As to price, haven't given it too much thought yet. There's been a couple other full carpets posted in the classifieds, probably would be in line with those.

$2500 is probably in the ball park for an upholstery shop to do it, though it seems like a waste of money. Not because it is not worth it to make your interior nice, but because it seems like you could do it much cheaper. Unless the headliner is physically damaged, I would think a quality detailer could easily clean it up. I don't believe the grey carpet is available OEM anymore (could be wrong), and they might end up doing a "custom" carpet that is not molded, unless they happen to know about the suppliers in Australia. You could order one of the molded carpet kits from one of the Australian vendors, and install yourself. This would not be hard for even a one banana guy, I think. You just remove the seats and some clips and replace what you have. Again, if there is not physical damage to your carpet, a good detailer can probably get it looking almost like new for a fraction of the price.

For the leather, I would go with a quality vendor like Metric TLC (aka AATLAS1X), where you can see examples of his leather here on mud, as well as his explanation as to what makes his kit different/better than the other materials available out there. I would then just have the upholstery shop install the Metric TLC kit.

So, if you were to just spend several hundred dollars with a quality detailer, $1000 for leather front and middle row seats, console and door arm rests, and $3-500 to have it professionally installed, you are looking at essentially the same result, for maybe $1000 dollars less.

Actually putting custom bumper protection or ARB-like, will make rig safer, save you autobody damage payments if someone hits you in the rear or front with stock, $$$$$$, put ARB in front or the like you save $$$$$$

very true. I'm a fan of those bumpers as well. one thing at a time though....haha

ps- still looking for a grey carpet kit for sale

I bought my lx for 1800. So far so good.
But as far as interior would go I'd get the headliner and carpets professionally cleaned and then order the leather kit from metric tlc. I've been on the fence myself about buying them, but it's a price you cannot beat.

As long as your carpet isn't worn, I'd pull it out, remove all the old insulation, saturate it with some diluted laundry detergent, then hang it up and pressure wash it. Allow it to dry for a week and it will look like new, then reinstall with some new insulation.
For the headliner, have a good auto detailer shampoo it.
Then for the leather seats, center console lid, and door arm rests, get the Metric tlc kit.
I guess it all depends on thd condition of your carpet, but you could have a beautiful interior for $1200-1300...

I think its a fair price actually.

Everyone else answered more to the tune of if it worth it and everyone has different desires and goals for their truck. I got new leather in mine for front seats, second row, and door panels for 1300 by an independant shop that does the leather upgrades for the local toy dealership.

Now can it be done cheaper? sure. But then their is the value of your time.
Everyone is different and i have friends with 3 kids and busy work schedules that will gladly pay more to have something done for them in a matter of days instead of weeks of sourcing and another week of finding time to get it done.

but I just scored a gray carpet from a totaled rig for 100 bux. So yes deals are out there if your up for looking and waiting for them to pop up. For someone to do it for you (they are a business and those only survive by making a profit) I think its a good deal.
