What is their estimate for sleeving the whole enchilada? Are you going to bend new lines using the old fittings or use the old lines?

Wow, indeed!! That's why I whimped out and took the cheap way out for the time being.

Are you going for the entire $745 package deal, Mike??

Now I can see why I bought those parts vehicles. One thing that is different in the southwest is rust is not really a factor, as far as safety on brake parts I would never use any part on the brakes that had rust damage.

ok, they're on their way. They have 24 hour turn around. We'll see when it comes to all of em :D

I think it would take me about 24 hours to just get the cylinders unfrozen. :D

Oh for cryin out loud....I guess that would be me needing them, was hoping to put off a functional rig for a few more years, but I'm getting so darned Tired of pushing them around the yard...

Hey...did you guys continue this somewhere else? I read this whole thread, and it's like someone ripped the last pages out of a good book.

Steve...did the 82 parts do the trick...any issues since?

Mike...how did the sleeves work out?

Anything new from SOR since, or from anyone else for that matter, that will make the brakes safe?

Thanks,
Dean

Dean, I just reread that thread.............my head hurts now.

I believe to answer your questions:

No, we never found a direct replacement, Steve's seem to be unique or previously modified. I'm pretty sure he got them working, can't remember how. Fox hasn't tried his sleeve job yet. I've got sleeved masters/honed cylinders and after working out the SOR piston issue they work fine and have held up good.

Oh yeah, 25 brakes are not safe, along with any other single circuit system.

Thanks Jim.

I read what you did, and when the time comes I'll ask you to put together a video for me. Great that you got yours working so well :)

I kind of figured they would be on the edge, hence the reason I want to upgrade the brakes on the '64 40...I plan to drive this one around, sort of a part-time daily during nice summer weather.

The '61 25 on the other hand will be kept stock...so...I see only local trips to the DQ, or very mild trails in it's future. When I start the resto I want to keep her as stock as possible...including original working brakes...but with a roll cage and three 3-point seats belts up front for safety.

BTW...nice to see back :)

Just sent my brake and clutch m/c's out to apple for a sleeve job. Both of them were leaking onto the drivers floor and I've always had problems with the clutch m/c losing pressure unexpectedly. I'll post up pics when they come back.

I'm considering sending out the tin cup masters for the '64.
Please keep us posted on the time line...and the price :)
