Interesting, I searched before I redid my first set and didn't find anything close. Is someone looking for cores????

Mike, did you have them rebuild the entire cylinder or just resleeve?

Thanks Fedex Ground!! Less than 12 hours from Apple to me :D

The clutch master is in and bled. I had to adjust the rod 3/8" longer.

Too bad I have to work tonight. I need a few hours of sleep. Otherwise, I'd get the brake master in. Oh well....

Any time I touch this truck it turns into a project. I tried bleeding the new brake m/c and it sure seems that all of the air is out but the pedal goes right to the floor but gets hard. So I figured that the brakes needed to be adjusted and used nerd's "brakes" thread as a guide. I started with the rear axle to find that all of the adjusters were frozen solid. I had never tried to move them since I've owned the truck. So, the rears are all free and adjusted after 6 hours of work. The fronts are taken apart and should go back together today. Lets hope this cures the pedal issue. No brake adjusters were harmed in the adjusting procedure....

Mike, could you share some critique on both White Post's and Apple's reconditioning results?

either one seem better than the other? if I recall, White Post was a bit more $?

From what I can tell, the only differnce between the two companies is 1. Price and 2. turn around time.

For a M/C, Whitepost was $225 plus shipping back, Apple was $175 plus shipping back. Whitepost turn around time they claim is 1 day per piece. I had 7 pieces done at that time whereas Apple is 5 working days.

I never got to function test the Whitepost m/c's and the verdict is still out on the Apple m/c. I tried the normal bench bleed but I think I still have some air in it. I have fluid movement and some pressure at the wheels but the pedal still goes to the floor. I'll be working on it this week. I think I may have a few frozen wheel cylinders to deal with too.

Well, something is definitely wrong. I cant get the pedal hard. It goes right to the floor. I've bled and bled, adjusted the brakes, and still its the same. I can hear the shoes moving so there seems to be fluid movement. My next step is to rebuild the wheel cylinders, I'm also going to place a call to Apple for ideas.

I talked to Apple. They suggested that I disconnect the line and thread a bolt into the hole to try to plug the hol. As we know, this is an oddball thread size. Something like an M13 x 1.5 or thereabouts. So I used a 1/2" bolt which is close enough to try and build up pressure. The object here is that if the pedal is now rock hard with the m/c plugged, then the m/c is functioning properly and the problem is somewhere else. If the pedal still goes to the floor, then the seal in the m.c isnt working properly.

Unfortunately, my pedal still goes to the floor. time to send the m/c back to Apple. :frown:

I think your wheel cylinder shoe adjusters still need adjusting out. Your symptoms sound just like that, not the MC. Do FJ25s have dual shoes like FJ40 series?

Single wheel cylinders but dual shoes. The wheel cylinder is located at the top of the backing plate and the shoes have a pivot at the bottom of the backing plate.

I thought they were out of adjustment too but if I adjust them in anymore, the wheels wont turn.

Nerd will be at my house tomorrow, he can fix it :D He just doesn't know it yet.

Kind of like the parking brake on a 40.

OK, well maybe they're not quite centered? Are your drums round? I'll be interested in how it goes!

So that is the trick is it...I may need to try a little harder to get him to come up for a visit

I'd be interested to see how it goes as well. I've heard of guys getting their shoes pre-shaped to match the "arc" in the circumference in their drums to avoid high spots...anyone else heard of this?

After thinking about it, I wondered if the wheel cylinders are fully bled, too. It can be hard to get the air out of them.

...?... :D
