22re longblock upgrade question

Are there any particular issues involved in useing a '94 22re long block to replace my '86 4runner 22re long block? I plan on using the '86 EFI system.
 
No issues that I'm aware of. As you say, just use your 86 injectors and harness. Everything else from the 94 should work just fine. If you use the 94 upper plenum and intake (which I would recommend) then you will also need the intake air plastic piping as the orientation is slightly different at the intake than the 86.

It would be a good idea to have your injectors cleaned while they are out.
 
Agreed on using the newer intake and throttle body, this will take the crappy aux air flow valve that is a PITA and $$$$$ to replace. Also clean the injectors mrinjector.com is a good place to have this done, not too pricey. New OEM PCV and check and replace old vacuum line and other runner hoses.

I'd look to make sure all of your accessory brackets have somewhere to bolt to. Like, does the donor have A/C, P/S, etc. I've seen some blocks that look identical but the holes are not drilled for the brackets if that vehicle didn't have that option.

With upper plenum swap comes a slightly different EGR setup, idle temp control, CSI, TPS connections. Best to set them beside each other and swap anything that's different (unless it makes it better).
 
They come up on eBay for about 125.00, this is the upper intake TB and TPS. This set up was on the newer 22re up to 95. Could check the junk yards but 22re parts go quick!

yea i am kicking myself for not taking the 90 pick up my neighbor was giving away. :doh: but had no where to put it. after i bought that crappy head off Ebay i think i will stick to the scrap yards or a truck.
 
I had Rc injectors do mine, 24$ ea IIRC, same day turn around.

The TPS is a non issue. You can reuse your existing TPS by swapping out the pawl underneath your existing throttle body and installing on the late-model throttle body.
 
Papy, this is nice to know, I plane on swapping over to the newer setup on my 86 4runner. Would there be harm in removing the old aux air valve wiring from the harness?

Didn't mean to imply that these are a show stopper, will just need to be looked at while the motor is out to make sure you have the right connector for the harness. These are just easier to change when you have the motor on a stand vs in the truck. Many harness connectors are different so you're going to end up using many of the components from your old motor or splicing in new connectors.

There is really no need. Just let it hang.

Agree, but the solution is to keep the existing sensors, which match your harness. The connectors did change. I ran into this same problem on my 3FE, 1988 and 1989 were different. Same goes for the 22RE. Use the sensors that match the harness. No heart burn. ECU doesn't care.
