Nope, improved fuel economy WAS the point and they blew it.
Nah, it was about emission but ok, let's consider what you're saying.... They "blew it" by giving the new vehicle 1500 lbs of additional towing capacity, 48 more hp, and 150 ft-lb more torque WITH better fuel economy. That's a miss? In what world?

Am disappointed that the seats don’t have any fore/aft adjustment, just like the LX. Based on the similar dimensions, I predict it will basically match the LX in 3rd row space and cargo space behind the 3rd row.

I think it looks good. I'm glad its still made in Japan and has a gasoline engine. The "Overtrail" theme is pretty cool. Looks like no third row. I kind of like that, never use mine anyway. Like others have said I think I'll wait a few years and shop the second hand market.

Definitely curious about the Halo Land Cruiser version. If it's anything like this. Hopefully a lot more bare bones. Steel wheels, same engine, maybe the 8 speed for better ground clearance, cloth seats, soft top? Manual transmission?

seems like only the hood is aluminum
LC300 uses more aluminum ( front fender - doors- back door - roof )

This stands out as weird - the LX600 is rated for 19 combined.

Not sure they are much different in size, the wheelbase appears to be the same for example.

Meh. I’m not a big fan of the styling. Maybe I’ll like the other trims better. The 17 mpg combined is horrifically bad. The current V8 GX gets 16 mpg combined. The whole point of going with the turbo V6 and the 10-speed transmission was to improve fuel economy. So they significantly increased complexity in order to get a whole 1 mpg better — that’s a swing and a miss.

Edited to add: at least the ugly spindle grille is gone.

Did they specify if that 17mpg combined was for all models or just the Overtrail? If it's 17mpg for the Overtrail I think that's pretty good. 33" ATs will do that. It also has 50 more hp and 150 more ft/lbs torque and will drive infinitely smoother. The V8 in the GX460 was smooth but it was not a power house. Put 33" ATs on a GX460 and you're getting 12mpg. It also tows 1500 more lbs.

The press release says “estimated 17 mpg” for all trims. Official EPA rating won’t be out for a while though.

I’m blown away that people don’t like this for what it is considering the current climate and what Toyota has thrown our way the last 5 years or more. But that’s what makes life fun.

This happens on EVERY vehicle forum. People will always complain and have a wish list of things they want in the next gen vehicle. Then we get something like the GX550 that essentially checks all those boxes and people will still complain about something. People are resistant to change. But whatever, this thing ****s and will sell a s*** ton. I love it.

I can tell you I have a 23 seq pro and it’s rated for like 20 and I am averaging 16 max. Lots of highway miles in RWD (~80 mph) I have about 11k on the clock already. I guess I mean to say that I lost all hope in mpg savings with more advanced Toyota engines lol

It does move butt though when asked.

I wouldn't kick it out of my garage. I bought mine for the long haul, so this isn't in the cards for me, but it feels like Lexus saw me rolling into the dealership for complimentary service with mud caked to the undercarriage and took note. I'm impressed that they went this direction and didn't wuss out and make the TX the next gen. Good show, Toyota.
