This thread has devolved into a hope over experience train wreck with no victory in sight. We have just lived through 18 months of 7% inflation. Have you checked the price of anything these days? Well many of you are going to be shocked by 2024 car prices across the board when they come out. We may even see top trim 4Runners pushing close to $60K much less a brand spanking new, newly engined and full of tech LC250.

My suggestion is to get a better job, make better investments, sell your house, send your kids to trade school instead of University, ditch the cat and dog, keep the wife, no Club Med with the Mistress, eat lentils and soy, but dig deep for some cash because you are going to need it to buy the new LC250! $65-$75K or more on par with the top trim GX maybe a couple grand less. Plan for it. If it turns out to be a bit cheaper, great.

If you can’t cover the cost of the new LC get a 2023 4Runner. Heck you can get two 4Runners for the price of a Defender!

The wife costs a lot more than the cat and dog.

I basically have both - fj40 on 39s with all the normal off-road stuff and a UTV. They're both good for different stuff. The bronco/Wrangler/fj40 is a billion times more enjoyable to ride in most places. Almost all UTVs are 80-90db inside even at moderate speed. Even the Honda ones. Worse if you add a cabin. The only ones I've ever ridden that are actually nice to ride in are the tracker ones from bass pro. But they aren't great off-road - no front locker.

They overlap a lot. If such a thing as a 1st gen 4R with UTV suspension and 150hp automotive engine existed, that would be the Goldilock vehicle for me. One vehicle could absolutely do both. There just isn't one. I'd definitely prefer to only have one. Built by Toyota would be even better.

My 2013 Land Cruiser has the V8, which is rated at 380 hp and 401 ft-lb of torque. That's more than enough power for me, given it's nearly 6,000 lb weight.

The hybrid 4-cylinder in the 2024 Tacoma is rated at 326 hp and 465 ft-lb of torque. That torque will come in at lower rpms than the V8. It will have more than enough performance for the weight of the vehicle. The open questions are 1) how good is the NVH and 2) how is the reliability? But the power will be fine.

My wife had a 2012 Mercedes C300 with the 3.0 V6. That was lovely engine that produced enough power and had great NVH. I was a bit disappointed when that her 2020 C300 came with a turbo 4. But after driving it, I have to say that the turbo 4 is a better engine than that V6. It has more torque at lower rpms. The car is significantly faster off the line and it scoots without ever getting into high RPMs. If you do get into high RPMs, then, yes, the NVH isn't as good. But you rarely need to. And the turbo 4 gets better fuel economy as well.

I would certainly miss the V8, but I disagree with your statement that a turbo 4-cylinder would not have enough power. In fact, at high altitudes a turbo-4 would likely be producing HP well in excess of the naturally-aspirated V8.

The difference I see here is that the hybrid gives you 326 horsepower for about 40 seconds. After that you've only got 270. Every mountain pass is going to be just a 270 horsepower engine. I don't think towing is going to be very fun.

I share your concern, which is why I won't be an early buyer. I'll give it a few years.

I am hearing rumors that the Prado name will indeed be a goner with the 250. It makes sense if you think about it, the Japanese/Australian press release makes no mention at all of the Prado name.
This is big news. I wouldn't be surprised if for the LC family tree, the light duty family tree ends with the 150 and they branch the 250 elsewhere.

We technically can't call this a Prado anymore if this is true, even if it is technically the spiritual successor of the Prado with some of its design DNA, but other than it being the product replacement for the Prado 150, it would be a radical enough change for it to genuinely be called LC 250 proudly without the Prado name attached to it. Good riddance. I hated the ''Prado'' name.

Split tailgate would be better, but you know one benefit of this big door now? Extra shade in the sun lol.

Honestly after owning it for a while, yes you will miss the split, but you will move on.

The GX550 is a lift glass hatch, has the same button in the lower left. So seems pretty conclusive that's what the LC will be. (A lift glass + split tailgate would be bonkers though.)

The pop up rear glass is convenient but I would have preferred a roll down rear window as a consolation prize if there is no split gate.

I had one in my 4th gen 4Runner. I think the lift glass is fine.

Assuming that the lightning was not added by accident…….maybe it will be the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid from the new Tacoma. Or a six-cylinder hybrid

What is the reason that the LC300 didn't get the lift glass like some of the other Toyota vehicles?

Seems like a nice feature honestly that id have liked on my LC300.
