The LC300 doesn't have to be a 6 figure vehicle. It's starts in low $50's in many markets. Base price in Japan is $46,500 USD. I'm sure it would sell at least in some volume as an alternative to the 4Runner if offered in lower trim options. And it's already a product ready to sell.
That is only one box checked. And pretty sure that wouldn't get them to their target of 30K in sales offering a bare bones overweight SUV with a nice motor.
I misspoke on the weigh range, meant mid to high 4K's not where it is with the 300.
It's still wrong on size and weight to work with a more fuel efficient and lighter SUV AND they obviously have something much better to offer! :)

I hate to even bring it up but how many miles into the Baja1000 did the LX600 make it? Regardless of what happened that is not a good start for a luxury flagship offroad SUV. I dug up the JAOS videos when they were testing it before they put on the blue skins and shipped to Cruiser outfitters. It looked cool and I would love one but just looked top heavy and too big. It's becoming more Hummer'ish or Cadillac than LC.

The Baja 1000 course is entirely on established, graded dirt roads that are traversed daily by local fishermen and ranchers in dilapidated ancient old falling apart pickups (for the most part). Pretty much any vehicle can drive that whole course if they’re careful & take their time. I’ve driven parts of it in it’s entirety over the decades.
Yeah, most of the dirt roads are rough, with wicked washboards, but they are roads that get visited by a grader every once in a while.
The LX 600 could easily drive the course (with a modified front bumper to improve the approach angle), the hard thing about the Baja 1000 is winning the race. That’s the insanity.

I'm pretty sure they barely even started it???
Is it because they were doing this with a BIG SUV before it got there? I don't think computers just fail.

I'll share this just because I mentioned it. Not about the fail necessary, it just looks big and clunky.

Remember when i said a proper bumper wouldn’t happen because of the twin intercoolers and i got told i was talking nonsense? Pepperidge farms remembers.

From a pretty reliable source: the new American land cruiser and GX are the same vehicle but diverge significantly from the softer styled Prado in terms of going more boxy than a 4runner and more off-road focused than the lc300 or the 4runner/Prado twins. A tnga-f platform Japanese G wagon for North America. That's the latest rumors I've read from a pretty reliable source historically.

It's a shared platform between all the body on frame models so saying it's a Prado or lc300 based vehicle is really the same thing. The difference being the STD duty or hd drivetrain and whatever body they fit on top. I'm not sure I see a great market here, but potentially there's room for a USA market SUV that goes further towards the off-road side. And looks like a lc70. Supposedly that's what it'll be. Starting around $50k and topping out about $75-80 where the GX will start. And the land cruiser will be a turbo 4cyl hybrid, and the GX gets the ttv6.
Well then my guess was accurate! Pat on the back I’ll see myself out and open a beer. Haha

I didn't know the LX600 had given it a go this year. I can't find details easily. What ended up happening and how far did it make it?

This thread documents a 200 and it’s Baja success. Page through to the 2022 Baja and there are a few posts/pics of the LX600:

If it were me shopping, i would honest get the V8 GX while i still can.
With all the 2020 updates it desperately needed. Carplay etc.
I am shopping and have over thought this to the moon and back. GX or 200 Series. Or wait and see what the new LC/GX will be.

If its a matter of time, you better get moving and get a nori green blackout GX.
Even if the new one drops it'll be a year or two years probably to get one.

I still say 200 series but not sure your needs.

Every-time i say something a video pops up on youtube.

This is THE prado to have if you want the V8. Regardless of whats coming it will be turbo / turbo-hybrid. While im sure it will improve and be cooler, and better off road, i would buy this updated V8. Just like the ‘16+ LX except i dont think the transmission was changed. But that may also be a win.

I’ve seen this one along with many of his other videos. Always felt he does a good job not only of driving but also explaining the various features like crawl and MTS and how they work.

You sure? This one was just realized 10h ago.
Talks a lot about the purchase decision.

That was my plan a few months ago but MY23 came and I really don’t like the grey seats.

For the sake of keeping this somewhat relevant to the thread I hope the new GX (Prado/LC) gives us some better approach and departure angles, loses the predator grill, and allows you to package things like MTS/Crawl without getting the top tier trims.

I spoke too soon. Just seen a green GX in the snow and noticed it was Driving Sports TV. He has a couple other videos of him wheeling the GX both in the snow and on his home made course in the woods.

No way the LC/GX will come back larger than the 300. Unless your talking cargo space. The Sequoya and LX are people/ family haulers with all those seats and electronics your naturally going to lose a lot of cargo space and especially payload. If you watch the videos and believe them, Toyota is downsizing and lightening their SUV/ truck lineup. The official LC300 release video from Toyota even states this.
They all will share the somewhat same platform and parts but that doesn't mean they all will be built different and have a sole purpose. The days of the next gen bigger more bloated generation Toyota is done. Want to believe it or not, this is why they dropped the 300 here and did the shift. This is nothing new, Ford started this already in 2019.
It was reported their sales target for the GX/ LC will be in the 30K a year range. This will NOT be a bronco/ Wrangler fighter, again, its a LC and what is once was. A $50K-$100K vehicle meant to compete with the Land Rover, not a weird small ugly looking FJ thing. The 4R will be a lighter, cheaper version with a pop top to compete with the lower range Bronco/ Wrangler. The LC will never see the 100K-200K sales a year the others see. They will leave that to the 4R of FJ or whatever they call it. However I bet it steals a lot of the 4R crowd and get them a larger number than they think. Unfortunately the FJ was killed off here in 98 and likely never associated with the LC again, but not necessarily a bad thing.

The T4 news is a bit disappointing but it paired with the electric rear axle, it kind of makes sense. Hopefully everyone is way off on the 550 powerplant and it is actually a straight T5 diesel hybrid :) they did make one at one point and based off the 1HZ so cant be all that bad of a engine.

Dump all the seats with 2 very foldable/ removable 3rd row seats IF that, dump most the unnecessary heavy electronics and your in the high 5K weight range.... Oh and put in that solid front axle Toyota......

This is spot on. The Defender is killing it right now. And the funny thing is, it’s actually more like a newer Discovery, than a “Defender”. Which is what a new smaller LC could be but with reliability!

It’s an amazing vehicle and my wife absolutely loves hers. It’s the best properly sized luxury off roader out there right now. But in true LR form, longevity is unknown with this new model until time passes. Though the build quality out of the new Slovakia factory has has been upped. Only time will tell if that bet pays off. So far it has. Almost 3 years in and no issues…”knocks on wood”

We want the LC though.

But a Defender is already bigger than the lc300. How does a GX that's smaller than the lc300 become a Defender competition?

LC couldn’t find this one…

The Defender is a smaller, lighter, & more capable off roader pkg from the factory w/out the reliability of a T. But it’s a GREAT vehicle and drives really easily and feels lighter than it is.

Everything the next LC that comes to the US should resemble. LR is killing it with it and T has to notice this.

It looks way better than a GX also. So to answer your question, Lexus HAS to change the grille and offer a more serious off road pedigree for the GX/Prado/Whatever to be considered a serious off-roader like the Defender is straight from the factory. Appearance and perception is everything. We know a GX can be modified to be great or good enough, but the average consumer spending $60-80k isn’t modifying anything out of fear of breaking a factory warranty.

The 300 is too big.

The GX is a better size to comparable proven off roaders on market already. It just isn’t dressed properly to play well.

LR sold about 10,000 Defenders in 2020 and almost 20,000 in 2021. During COVID uncertainty & supply issues.

So T’s projections of 30,000 for the next LC seems pretty darn similar to me who they’re comparing to…
