I have a 2022 Tundra that has the motor replacement recall. I wanted to get the groups opinion and what to do. On paper a motor replacement sounds like a no brainer but I don't trust a dealer to install a new motor as good as the factory. My fear is there will be some harnesses that was damaged or a gasket not installed correctly which could lead a bunch of frustrations in the future. The truck has 55,000 miles and runs like a top. My gut is telling me that if it hasn't blown up yet then it's probably not going to. I am also concerned I may have trouble selling it in the future if I don't complete the recall. I plan on keeping it for at least 200,000 miles probably beyond that.

My questions are:
If you were me would you get a free motor replacement from Toyota? If so, then who is a "reliable" dealer?

Honest opinions are are welcomed

If it were me, I'd have the engine replaced on Toyota's dime then sell it and buy the best, latest model, lowest-mileage V8 Tundra you can find. Enjoy the next 200k+ trouble-free miles of ownership.

Ask them if they are just replacing the short block or it's an assembled long block? My understanding was they were initially just replacing short blocks until they could get the long block inventory. I'd also ask if this is a Japanese built motor or US and how long can you wait till the recall ends?.

2nd Marshall. Also if they are replacing the motor there will be some sort of Warranty extension through Toyota. Replace the motor, enjoy the extended warranty, and sell it for the lowest V8 Tundra you can find.

Those great questions that I will get answered before doing anything

If I'm not mistaken, via conversation with our local Toyota sales manager while I was grabbing parts, he said there is no mileage or time limit on that recall, so you can drive the heck out of it and get the motor down the road. I haven't fact checked that yet, but may be something to look into and consider.

I didn't think recalls expired. I mean look at the gas tank recall on the fj60 gas tanks for example. Now running out of parts may be another matter.
