Thank you for the insight. Did you get a Heritage 2021? What was sticker, 80?
I'm trying to get a 2021 heritage in silver. I would have bought silver last year if it was a choice. I have to local dealer trying to order one if he can get allocation. Another nearby dealer has one in stock but they want $89130 which is $1500 off of sticker. And when I asked Eric at Ed Martin he said he can not get another. The Gent at CarMax said the silver one posted is already sold as well.

If Eric can't get an allocation on one then there's probably little hope that anyone else can. If you're set on a Silver HE then I would buy whichever one you can get your hands on regardless of price.

Say I'm a dealer sitting on one of these "antiquated platforms..." what to do... what to do...

1. Sell it to people paying OVER MSRP
2. Take a bath and sell it to you at list, you do really make a compelling argument after all
3. Trade it to a sister dealership that has a guy willing to pay MSRP or over MSRP

I pulled out the sticker for my 2008 that my old man bought in Yuba City 12 years ago and it was around 70k.

I'd invest in a time machine,

Serious answer for the OP:

The sticker, without any options (like 3rd row seats), or dealer/port add-ons, is $89,240 for the HE model. And the dealer cost (online, not verified) is $78,229. And that dealer cost includes the discount (holdback) that dealers get back from Toyota post-sale. So, an invoice price would be $78.621.

Given reputable sites like KBB are suggesting I would get more for my 2020 HE as a trade-in than I paid for it, I find it unlikely that a dealer would sell one for $70. So, back to 1st post - IMO not obtainable.

Tthat means the price @jeproks quoted is about 3-1/2% profit for the dealership. That of course if before someone gets ripped off on a trade-in, or the finance department talks somebody into window tint, or add-on warranty, or etc., etc.

@LBridges - In some markets (not sure if it is all markets) there is a significant regional marketing fee ("TDA") that is added on to the price ($1140 on the pricing sheet I was given). Plus you need to pay the delivery charge ($1365). Plus a minimal "Gasoline" charge for who knows what ($9.31 on the one I saw). Those are on top of the $78,621...

Then there is the dealer holdback and wholesale financial reserve...

This has to be a troll level joke thread haha.
Agreed. 22% off MSRP? This non-tech post should have been here:

Thanks for the info about regional marketing fee (none in my area, thankfully).

The costs I posted included delivery (since it's the same for all CONUS dealerships ). It also included the dealer holdback, but not any "gasoline" charges as South East Toyota gives you a quarter tank (or at least the local dealers do).

Finally, don't know what a wholesale financial reserve is.

Here's data I pulled from online. My dealer said the costs (for my 2020 HE from this website) were correct, so I assume the 2021 numbers are good as well..

MSRP
$87,845

Invoice Price: $78,621 plus Destination Fee: 1,365 minus Holdback: $1,757 equals Dealer Cost $78,229

I don't think you can assume that holdback is just something to deduct to get to the price. Maybe on a car that is ordered specifically for you, but as I recall, this is essentially a way for the manufacturer to fund the interest costs for the loan on the vehicle while the vehicle sits on the lot between delivery and sale. It isn't just free money that the dealer can give back to you (except maybe where they literally have no carrying costs because you pre-paid, pre-ordered). I could be way wrong, but that's how I understand it. I'd be happy to be educated though.

I agree. Obviously the dealer has to make a profit, and if it's sitting on the lot, it's costing them money, not making it (money).

My first post was simply trying to explain the overall picture to the OP, and why $70 for a new LC was a fantasy.

I bought my 2018 in September 2019 from the largest Toyota dealer in the DC/VA/MD area. I have bought several other vehicles from them over the years including a '99 and '02 LC's, (2) Tundra's and (2) Sequoia's and the price I have been able to negotiate averaged 9% from sticker and included the destination charge in the calculation. They add some crap processing fee that I have tried unsuccessfully tried to haggle down. I make it up on the service plan as those are tremendously negotiable. I paid just under $1000 for the 7-year Toyota Platinum plan that was offered at $2400. Those are just money in the bank for the dealer as they are so unlikely to ever have to pay out on it.

I did make out on my wife's Lexus. Had the tires replaced at 60K at the dealer who had the cheapest installed price of every place I looked. I do all my own routine maintenance so they had never seen the car since it was purchased. They went on a fishing trip and found $1600 worth of warranty repairs that were questionable at best. It's not on their dime so it is to their advantage to find stuff. That 7-year Platinum Lexus plan was offered at $3400 and I paid $1900 so I came close to breaking even. I've never had any out of warranty repairs on any of my LC's, but my fear is the main display. I bought an extra off of eBay for my '02 for $600 and it works fine. The original is in my office hopefully to never be used.

All that said if it is $86K in the best of times I could get it for about around $78,000 (I paid '18 $77,686 for it). I doubt that is the case with LC's going away and inventory disappearing. If you want it then get it. Don't wait around worried about a few $1000 and miss out. My '02 is running strong. I paid $50K for it and have little into it other than (1) set of tires, timing belt, spark plugs, water pump, (1) O2 sensor, a full brake job and exhaust (get crazy and call it $8K with all the consumable stuff). Granted it only has 125K on it, but $60K over 18 years is about $3300 per year. It's has at least another 200K and the only showstopper could be an esoteric part or me selling it, which I have no plans to do. Of the two LC's I own it is my favorite.

I've posted this is another thread. But pricing on these is very regional. Here in Albuquerque, I was trying to purchase a silver HE for sticker and they told me no. Let me walk out. I ended up buying a white HE for 88k out the door in Las Vegas. Here's a pic of the window sticker for the silver HE. They sold it a week later.

I'd invest in a time machine,

$70,000 in 2008 is equivalent to $85,000 today. Inflation is a bitch.

To the OP: Heritages at any price are hard to come by you'll have to find one on the lot.

If you can get a Heritage for less than MSRP that would be a win. There is a non-forum dealer who had stock as of a few days ago located in the Northwest area who is selling for MSRP.

Your view on the 200 being antiquated and should be getting it in the high $70's was valid until December 24th 2020 when the death of it was officially announced. You might be able to swing a base for a good deal. Best of luck to you.
