So I’ve read through a lot of the past threads for the Steering Stabilizers but there weren’t any recent ones. Not sure if there are any new additions to what’s been available the past 5 years so I thought I’d bring it up. I’m going to start replacing everything I can on my ‘91, the stabilizer being first, so I wanted to ask before I pull the trigger. I’ve seen OME, Iron Man, Bilstein so far. Any recommendations on the best one currently out there?

Thanks in advance!

I just replaced mine and went Monroe... cheapest option I saw by far, shipped to me in two days, and lifetime warranty. Definite improvement over the OME it replaced. No idea if the more expensive ones work significantly better

This thread from last month has some good info on current offerings

For some reason, this thread doesn’t pop up when I search “Steering Stabilizer” 😅 Anyway, thanks for sharing the link!

None.

I removed a dead one from my '93 about 18 months ago.
Haven't replaced it and not going to. There has not been a single instance where I thought of s***, really needed that stabiliser.

Mine is on stock, original suspension, could do with new shocks and new bushes. It has 315/70r16 on it.

If your caster is good and suspension is in decent shape, the stabiliser doesn't have a lot it needs to do IMO

Feel the one you've got on there (compress and extend by hand). If it provides consistent damping throughout the stroke, then it works and doesn't need to be replaced. Spray paint it your favorite color, and then it's the "best."

These are not like suspension shocks where there are tuned damping profiles to match spring rates, suspension travel and weight capacity. Just a basic damper that serves a cursory function.

It's amazing to me people paying nearly 10x the amount for a "KINGS EPIC OFF ROAD SHOCK STEERING DAMPENING STABILIZER" when you will notice absolutely no difference over the $30 Monroe from Amazon. I am all about buying top quality parts but this one just makes 0 sense.

haha yeah, I’ve seen the shiny blue one too actually but I don’t think I’m gonna be hitting any whoops at 100mph anytime soon, even if I wanted to lol.It seems like the consensus (sorry for the cringe buzzword) is still, pick a color and smile. So, I guess I’ll check mine to see if it’s still good and go from there.

Thanks to everyone for the input!

Put me down in the 'not a crucial part, don't waste a bunch of money' camp.

I changed mine because it came with the kit.

I took of the OEM unit, and discovered it was fine at 288K miles.

I installed the new OME unit anyway. No difference.

We have power steering that decouples what we feel in the steering wheel. Now, my patrol in oz with strong arm steering, yeah, having the steering damper on/off is noticeable :)

cheers,
george.

Thanks again for the replies. I think I’m going to hold off for now and save the cash to rebuild the knuckles. I only have 140k on the odo so from what I’ve been reading and what everyone’s said here, I should be in good shape!
