This is why a Tesla or any non traditional purchase will be our next move for the wifes car. Other than to obviously offset our gasoline dependancy.
That’s actually a great example.. my understanding is the car sales laws prevent Tesla from selling cars as they would prefer specifically to protect the business model everyone hates.

Though I should probably learn more about the specifics before I rant about it online.

This is why i don't shop at Toyota. I tried to (and did) test drive a 4 runner once a while back and after that lovely experience I swore it right off for good. It would take a personal referral for me to even think about it.

Gonna trade gasoline dependency for electricity dependency? I like electric cars but no matter what you drive you will be dependent on some form of energy.
Dealerships are not car salesman.

It is easy to buy a car right now and not deal with a salesman.
The dealership model is the real issue, not car salesmen. That's why the dealership model is protected by law in most states.

Yes but the context brought up was car salesman "Car salesman will be a thing of the past soon."
Car salesmen are a product of the dealership model. Car salesmen (for new cars at least) will be around as long as dealerships are round. Now, with prices more and more insane the salesmen feel empowered to be even bigger jerks.

Yes. I’m sorry I don’t understand your issue with what I’m saying?

I don’t want to pay for or support 200 gallons of gasoline a month for a household of 2. We currently only have one car since the pandemic and our next won’t be another guzzler.

Also an electric car is MUCH cheaper to run than gas and would be a hedge against rising gas prices. I don’t cart a family around so burning 2 gallons of gas to go down to block for some groceries doesn’t make a lot of sense for us.

Having an LX for road trips, hauling people or anything else, family needs and adventuring is good enough for us to justify a small and efficient second vehicle.

Im not claiming it’s free (or even green energy) I’m just saying it’s wasteful and expensive to get another gas vehicle when electric is so much better for city driving and short trips that we want to make just the two of us.

We’re also working from home so the idea of commuting in the LX wasn’t even in consideration. It’s my “daily” but I would never commute long distances with it. I would buy a s***ty beater for that instead gas or not. Driving 50 miles a day one person to and from work in an LX is not optimal, even if you don’t care about carbon impact etc. Not to mention the drivers, lack of insurance, road debris and all sorts of bs here in TX at least.

Car salesmen (for new cars at least) will be around as long as dealerships are round.

They are a an endangered species as more and more folks buy cars without engaging them. There is no need to engage a car salesman to buy a car anymore.

Now, with prices more and more insane the salesmen feel empowered to be even bigger jerks.

I'll have to take your word for it, as I have not bought a car from a car salesman in over 10 years.

I didn’t buy it yet. Between the sales lady’s s***ty attitude and the markup I’m thinking twice. She was literally saying if I don’t give her an answer in ten minutes, the deal is off the table.

What a crappy way to do business on such an expensive transaction. I do hope the dealership model changes so we don’t have to deal with this crap. These salespeople literally know nothing about the products either, so they’re basically adding zero value.

Now now. Somebody’s gotta walk to the “closed door” to speak to the decision maker at the dealership. Don’t they??

A plethora of games must ensue of course before any "deal" is reached. How else can they justify their existence? They are nothing more than an intentional fatigue mechanism anyway. The sales managers and finance team make all the decisions.

Like it was also stated, often they know absolutely nothing about the vehicles in the first place.

I had the best relationships at BMW and Porsche in Houston. Fleet pricing and custom order whatever i wanted. There were never even any negotiations. Having friends in the business is the only way. I knew a lot of top folks at Audi , Jag, LR as well in my past life.

Agreed. It’s not just the LC that they know nothing about. I’ve seen high-volume Toyota dealers know nothing about highlanders, Rav 4s, etc. you name it, they’re essentially clueless.

Cmon man! Are you sure you don't want to upgrade into a GX?

I decided not to pull the trigger on the HE. Had the sales lady and manager not been completely rude and obnoxious, maybe I would have proceeded.

Let them sell it to someone else for a markup. I’ll enjoy what I have for now. Besides for that price, there are lots of other options in the automobile market.

Waiting is good!

Post their name and number and I'll call to negotiate.

With high fuel prices I’m wondering if the gas guzzling bigger SUV demand will slow down , I got 95k last month on a 2019 with 2k on it I was happy with that I paid 78k for that in 2019 .

@goodnightnyc how’s the search so far? Keep us posted! I think about your thread every time I see a 2021 HE pop up for $130k. 😳

Small town dealership (owned by a big city dealer) that's usually pretty good about dealing. It's not far from me so should someone get serious I could go take a look. Lots of miles for the asking price but I guess it's all relative in this market. Definitely not in an area where many would be buying a LC so it might sit a bit longer than expected.

I've put the search on hold. I still look at autotrader from time to time, but I can't stomach paying these crazy markups on a used vehicle - or any markup for that matter.

Interestingly I mostly see the same LC's listed on autotrader, asking anywhere from $110-140K. So it seems people are asking these insane prices, but nobody is buying. Or am I mistaken and these vehicles are actually trading hands at these prices?

No idea, seems unlikely to me but I’m sure you’re watching more closely than most. If someone can afford one at that price, then more power to them. The laws of supply and demand have taken over. Never expected I could sell any (non-classic) car for more than I paid for it, but then again I don’t plan on selling.
Which then begs the question… by restricting the US market, has Mr. T created a classic car type market in a modern vehicle? 🤔
The most expensive outlier HE on sale now is in Woodstock, GA for $220k, with lots of goodies - an impressive build.
