Headed to the snow today with Pop. Went up Spencer Creek as usual. We hit about 26" which was on top of another 4" of frozen crap. I led in the beginning to see what I do with the Runner and it did pretty well. We chained up all 4 I switched to Crawl Control and got as far as I could and then let Pop take lead and break trail. We got as far as the waterfall if you know where that it.

On the way back down while taking the chains off a couple kids in Toyota pickup passed us going a little fast. A minute later one of them was walking back to us and said his friend needed some help. Went down and saw his rear end over the bank with one tire in the air on the front. We took our time and assessed the situation and decided that I would face towards the up hill and run two snatch blocks off a big tree and smaller one to get the angle in order to pull him straight back up onto the road. I didn't want to pull him straight from the road and take a chance of him rolling. Ran out almost all the line and started winching. The winch did great and didn't bog down at all. Got to break in the new chains and winch the same day.

Up there in shorts? What is this kid some kind of Prodigal son of Matt's?
He has so much to learn... No Flip flops, plus his shorts are not up to basic fraying standards for the associated weather and short socks :flush:. At least his hat is on properly.

I told him to slow down and take this as a lucky lesson and I'm just glad he came out safe. My dad wasn't as nice in his choice of words with him.

Good job G and D.

This kind of made me wonder, are people carrying more than one snatch block typically?
Definitely nice to have options.

2 snatch blocks, 1 tree saver, 1 choker chain, 70' & 50' of 5/8" synthetic extension lines and 3 "D" rings.

I wonder if I sent his Dad a picture, or his girlfriend's dad a picture if he would get an earful.

Never enough input on the situation to instill the dangers of youth.
