The whole CAFE regulations deal also has a little known side deal known as carbon credits. Basically if a companany such as Toyota sells a large number of cars exceeding cafe requirements (THINK ELECTRIC & HYBRID) they earn these credits, that they can one chose to sell to other auto mfg or can be to used to offset vehicles they sell that fall short of the requirements. I think that is why Toyota as a whole has been slower to react to the CAFE regs where trucks and SUVs are concerned, since they are one of the only mfg with a real high volume of sales in those electric driven models, earning them an abundance of these carbon credits.

Basically I don't think Toyota is going to really be all that motivated in terms of design of the the 300 to cater to the us CAFE rules, they sell less then 10,000 units in the US, and those rules would likely hinder the high volume sales in the rest of the world. I think Toyota will just simply use some of there credits from a few Prius sales to offset a small number of Land Cruiser sales.

For those reasons I don't think there will ever be a Land Cruiser designed specifically for the US market, if we did have one the real one would be sold to the rest of the world and a Highlander just got renamed Land Cruiser.

The other alteranatives are to stop importing them to the US, pay fines prebuilt into the prices, should they not have excess carbon credits.

I understand the challenge Toyota faces completely now. CAFE regulations make a mess of things! Because of it, the Land Cruiser's (US) price is higher to pay off the tariff and, Toyota is forced to give the Americans something that is all decked out and, not the "traditional" bare bones offroader!

However this message, it gives me more hope and appriciation in Toyota these days! Toyota is kinda like JFK "For the people by the people!" They don't want the legendary offroader name extinct in the US! They want it to live on! Also, currently, I feel Toyota has not lost its Sporty, Small, fun, and agile image [Like the Celica, Supra, Solera, MR2, AE86 Corolla etc], but, they want to sacrafice it for the beheamouth legendary SUV's like the Land Cruiser which are manufactured in Japan, and come with a reliable gas guzzling 5.7L V8!:)

Regarding colors. The 100 used to be available in black garnet. Loved that color. Is the code the same as the dark red by Lexus? I've only seen this color on a LC twice and thought it was stunning.

After analyzing Toyota Japan's site, compared to the info/photos released for the US market, I am disappointed. They still are not giving US models the power rear liftgate, power third row seats and we do not get the great looking (in my opinion) 20 inch wheels. Japanese customers get a fully loaded Land Cruiser as well as the LX570, while it appears as if US customers don't have the same options for whatever reason. Even the Rav4 has an available power rear liftgate! Maybe I'm one of the few, but I was quite excited after viewing the Japanese released Land Cruiser press videos and the data on their site prior to seeing the stripped down version that will be offered here.

Unfortinetly, they are not the same color. Fire Agate Pearl is more of a brownish red, mantanor red mica is slightly off of nd, Black Garnet is more of a dark purpleish red. I admit I have not seen many of those Black Garnet Toyotas and, I like that color!

Might convince mother to re-paint her highlander that color (she hates the black colored one that we got her and, she wants to currently re-paint it in Atlantis Blue Mica [Same color as our 100!])

While I was searching, I am guessing that that color has not been around for awhile? I noticed it was possibly last offered on the 2008 FJ Cruiser as a color called Black Cherry? I found this discussion from the FJ Forums: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...03-08-brick-black-cherry-07-discontinued.html

You guys see the turn signal lights on the LX? I tried to link it here but don't have the tech skills! Very cool could not find what the LC has

not sure I hope they did good research on these; I see lots of audi in my area and many which look brand new have some sort of light out! either one of the rear or one of the front daytime runner lights. The thing I like best is that the daytime light does not shut off when the blinker is on. I think the off and on of many other car company lights maybe the problem?? I know mustangs offer this rear light for some of their models but it is a option not standard so some added cost has to be involved. Could not find anything on the Land Cruiser

Those turn signals won't make it to the USDM anytime soon. BMW wanted to bring those over here and there seems to be a large gap between what the industry standard laws are and how far tech has come. In this particular case the turn signal needs to be xx size when flashing but these start out as too small. Despite getting bigger, the law still prevents it. There is a similar issue with laser headlights coming to market.

I really like the interior of the LX. I am trying to like the exterior. Maybe I could swap the front end with an LC! Not happening... plus the hydraulic height adjustment. There is a big difference now between the two

My friends wife thinks it's hot.... Me thinks it's NOT...

Forgot to add this; it seems to be really "liked" by the ladies; both my wife and sister love it. Lol not sure if maybe they just said that cause my intro of the picture was. "Oh my look how ugly they made the new LX" and they just went opposite of my opinion? Lol
