A couple of questions here. First, how is everyone's reception on their Satellite Radio? I mounted a Frontrunner roof rack and as expected the reception got even worse. This weekend, I slid the rack forward (about 8" in front of the antenna) and there was no change in the reception.

It there a way to boost the reception from the antenna? Also, has anyone found a way to relocate the antenna? I'm assuming that the antenna is the fin on the rear of the roof. Is there anything else inside of the fin? Not sure where to start with this one.

Reception is not great, probably worst I have ever had. Was bad in Tundra, but not this bad. I now have a roof rack and it is really bad. Would love to find a solution for this also.

I used an adapter similar to this. I plugged the adapter into the Toyota XM module underneath the front passenger seat, then plugged a regular XM satellite antenna like this into it and ran it up on top of my rack. Reception is awesome!

Good to know Beretta...my reception is pretty bad as well. I've had Sirius since the early 2000's, and this is by far the worst reception I've had. I'm definitely going to give it a try.

Ordered. Thanks. I'll let you know how it works out.

Installed the sirius antenna and it works great. 100% better than the stock antenna. Also learned that on the 2014, it plugs into the dash head unit and not under the seat. Thanks again for the info.

I have a 2011 and brought it back saying there was something wrong. It went through diagnosis (allegedly) and they said everything was working fine. It wasn't. Called Toyota and told them something was wrong with the antenna as I have had sat radio for years in other vehicles with no problems. Went back to dealer, they changed the antenna and it works like magic.

The reception on my 08 is not perfect but I always thought it was all the trees in Maine. If I'm out on the highway or major roads where the trees are cut back it is fine. Just the tighter wooded areas its not even worth listening to. What happened to all those "ground repeaters" they were going to put in? Not in the Maine woods I guess.

Would love more feedback on this if possible. Just bought a 2013 LC and my biggest complaint is the reception for the Satellite Radio. The unit I had in my FJ Cruiser (not factory) had GREAT reception. On the LC, it cuts out constantly with a heavy canopy of leaves (that NEVER happened with my FJ). A couple of questions, because the problem seems to be pretty common, but finding a solution has not been easy. First question: Has anyone replaced the Shark Fin antenna with ANOTHER factory shark fin antenna and this fixed the problem? Does replacing the shark fin antenna with a secondary market antenna effect FM radio reception? I am not sure if the shark fin antenna is JUST the satellite arial or if it serves as the FM radio arial also. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We are having same issues. Seems one person up in this thread had luck seapping factory antenna but I have not seen other examples of that? Many if the threads on this issue are older I wonder if Toyota has changed the factory antennas?

Could someone post photos of the install of the adapter into the XM module under the seat and then
the antenna wire routing to the rooftop.

THX

@Hothonda , did you get this figured out?

Did you ever figure out where to install the kit for satellite reception?

This is a a real issue. Have a 2013 and reception isn't terrible, but it does cut out occasionally in specific areas. However, my wife's 2016 GX has terrible reception. We went so far as to have the dealer replace the shark fin and when that didn't work, they replaced the head unit... absolutely no change.

So maybe I'll just bypass the factory shark fin antenna and see if that improves it on the GX.

Hey guys, check out my thread below where I added a standard SiriusXM antenna. Not 100% sure it would apply to model years other than 2011 but it might point you in the right direction and help you avoid some of the mistakes I made.
