Hey Guys! TGIF :beer::beer:

Finally got my 13 LX after some restoration work and now I'm kicking myself in the behind for doing stuff backwards.
I should have done the "inside before the outside"....They say in hindsight...blah blah blah :crybaby::doh:
Probably should have learned my lesson from the last couple 100 series shenanigans
wah wah

So anyway....trucks at 121k
Oil change and filters were done about 10 months ago while it was sitting on the dealer lot and a decent amount of other work - but - only the brake flush - no other fluid flush/drain fills that i could find on any service history docs. it hasn't been driven more than a few hundred miles in 8months, so I figured Oil change for sure....

Now...the kicker....what else can I hold off a bit on? I'll wait for things to fail eventually- o2 sensors, starter, anything else after 100-120k that dies etc....But I spent more than I expected/should have and am dreading the estimate from my LC/LX mechanic to get everything up to date.

fluid exchanges/flushes from most important to least that i need to do based off mileage:

Power steering (no history - an i just top it off?)
Transmission (no evidence at 100k)
AHC (no history at all 60 or 120k)
Transfer Case (no history)
Fr/Rr Diff (no history)
Coolant (no evidence at 100k)

That being said. No cracks or evidence of cracks starting on the radiator (phew! and no cam tower leaks, oil leaks etc. PPI passed with flying colors) -- Am I just a craps shoot away from exploding on the freeway or can I wait to proactively do it just a smidge longer? i gotta work and make more $$ more LOL

I know when the radiator gets swapped (at some point) I can have all the hoses and water pump, etc changed too.
It's CA based for 13 years, so I'm not too worried about extreme weather damage....

my brain is just farting at spending another 2-3k
Thanks in advance guys!
Good weekend to all of you

Cheers

Now....what to do with my 06 LX.....
Keep the 13 and don't look back ?
I don't think I'll be able to keep both :(

It can all wait...depending on your use factor...but it all needs to be done, too. I knew I'd be taking 3k mile trips almost immediately so I accelerated my maintenance schedule.

I believe spark plugs are 125k and I would add PCV replacement to the list.

I'd change the oil and the coolant before I did anything else, if I had to prioritize it. Also brake fluid flush.
Then diffs and Tcase
Transmission service after that.
Power steering I'd suck out the reservoir and refill over the next few oil changes.

Then there are heater hose tees, serpentine belts and idlers, blah, blah, blah.

Coolant flush and fill should be a priority. Closely inspect the radiator.

I’d also consider a transmission fluid drain as fill. Not a complete flush.

I agree with the above advice the other fluids need to be done but you can spread them out.

@Willie G How did those road trips go on your back/tailbone? My 100 series has been killing my lower back lately since I'm tall. I've got one of those support plastic backed tailbone lift cushions to help. It works wonders in the 100.....Did about 300 miles on the 200 series over the weekend and it felt pretty good. No numbness or completely falling asleep of my back or leg....so far :)

@tominboise Agreed on PCV. I had seen that as a must watch item in other lists, so that's definitely on my to do list at some point. Thanks for the reminder on that! I've modified my to do list from the 100 series to cover more in the 200 to keep watch

@94SRUNNER I dropped off the truck to my land cruiser specialists that I adore and have used for the better part of 15 years now and I trust them to change things as necessary. To be honest, they said to wait until things look "dirty." I mentioned all those items above from you and Tom and all we did was a brake flush and oil change. They said to see how everything looks at the next 5k oil change and I strongly urged them to monitor the radiator...
The threads here on the radiator you could read for months!!!!

So I guess I'm in the clear for now.....
I'll just drive it and enjoy it :)

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Cheers :steer:

Given the concerns with coolant issues on these trucks, I would get the coolant flushed. Cheap insurance.

Did a 960 mile day last week, no problems.

In my mind, the LX compares favorably with a mid-70s Town Car, but with better fuel economy.

There are a lot of people here smarter than me - but my 0.02 -

Yes on the coolant
Yes to the drain and fill - by someone that knows what they are doing

Not mentioned but cheap - I would grease/lube the chassis/zerks. I bought a ‘passed with flying colors’ 2015 LC a year ago and did it twice within the year and I’ll likely keep that schedule. Doesn’t cost much and gave me peace of mind.

Maybe over kill but I did my oil changes at low mileage intervals just to flush out anything that is a result of neglect.

And a 06 LX? I wouldn’t imagine you would have any issue finding someone looking for one of those.

I was blown away when the display said 15.8 mpg since last fill up. Shocked.
And yes, I can agree on a smooth ride for sure

agreed
i told the mechanics to grease and tighten whatever they need to.

i think you guys are right,
i'll just pony up the money and do the coolant/swap out the heater t's at the next oil change - i'll go closer to 3k vs 5k like normal

at the next oil change, tackle the diffs/TC/tranny/power steering

and in those intervals they can check the AHC fluid.

they said all looks good so far, so i'll take what i can get without having to pay out the you know where....
