Parting Out 2011 Cruiser HZJ76 Diesel Being Parted Out - Brand New

I just talked to the owner this evening. He is one hell of a nice guy and super busy. Don't be discouraged by a slow reply on Mud. He is new to the site and inundated with questions & request. If anyone can clear up the paperwork and ship the truck to your door... it is him. YES, this is the same truck on Ebay.

He might be a nice guy. However, putting this first on mud and soliciting offers by phone, then throwing it on ebay and magically have a shill-friend put in the first bid higher than the best phone offer, does not inspire confidence. I would not touch it after that.
Little stays a secret in the US-toyota diesel market...

Wow its past $23k on ebay...will be interesting to see who's pocket is the deepest. crushers is right...there will be a grey title if you use this frame. perfect candidate for 79 bodies proffitts have...much cheaper than buying all the parts new from toyota. but you still play the vin game. 15k seems about right...25k no thanks

Wow, that is high. 23k and reserve not met. I am with Wayne, that's plain stupid.

Your ear is closer to the railroad then mine to know all that info. The current bid is well above what I offered and it looks like 8 different bidders are haggling it out. Most newbies don't know Mud etiquette and relate it to a Craigslist for Toyota's. My opinion is that he posted here and then piggy backed Ebay to try and move it. Someone on Ebay has grandeos ideas and a lot of money to throw at a project:beer:

me,
if i was to buy it then i would look for a dead LJ78 and do a full tub swap switching the dash to LHD.
then i would shop for a HD7* front clip and install.
done.

but

say you bought it for $25K
then found a LJ78 for $3K
shipping say ... $3K for moving a dead truck
then a front clip for $1K
about 2 weeks labor at a shop 6 X $450 = $2700 up to $4200
then paint $1500 for a splash job
$36,500 on the low end. $42K on the high side.
and
how would you register it unless you played the vin game?

of course you could purchase it, buy a cab and box from Mister Proffit for $7K, and a bit of labor and you have a pickup for $32K+
and still have to play the vin game.

so

moral of the story
"never invest money you can not afford to lose"

Well said:cheers:

Probably true-financially it certainly was a great move to put it on ebay.

I would like to know the reserve price .. just for fun ..

I have a proffitts body and there is no way in hell I would buy this rig for 25k...even if I didn't already have a drivetrain I wouldn't even consider it. I'm building my whole truck for far less than this and thats with a new diesel drive train.
I would love to have some parts off this rig but it looks as though it might sell as a complete rig if the bidding keeps going. It is ebay though and just b/c people are jacking up the price doesn't me the sale will actually go thru even if the reserve is met.

15 k max is what I was thinking before wayne talked. its essentially a rolling chassis.
Get a prado and do a swap or use the drivetrain for something else.

Well 5k would be a fair assessment if it was in decent shape but the body has a few things wrong. back glass is missing and one of the doors is fubar. I don't think there is much of a market for the parts in the US. I tempted to buy it b/c it has a few thing I want.

Glad somebody mentioned the frame. You could cut the box or lenthen the frame like I did. Or you could put a 60 or 80 body on the frame with some work involved.

Yeah... I agree with Wayne. Way too much money for what you get. How much is a new 1HZ from Mr Toyota anyway? You could probably get an new engine and tranny from Toyota for less than this is selling for and get some kind of warranty. And, it's not like 1HZs are rare or don't have much reliability.

And for those thinking they'd get some cash from this in parts, I had an FJ60 I parted out that looked like this. There is not one panel that is complete and most of the other parts would need to be sent overseas as there are NONE of these here. Unless you have ICON money, this is not a good deal.
