The rain made things a little slippery but it worked wonders for dramatic photos. We ran Poughkeepsie/Corkscrew the day before the event started last year and I'll never forget going down the Corkscrew switchbacks in a downpour. Spooky.

Hope y'all are ready for seeing LC conveys in awesome places.

Hey guys, I'm a latecomer in signing up on the spreadsheet, work's been nuts this week.

Seeing that most of the moderate/easy groups are full-up, should I just drop myself into one of the empty groups for now? Realistically speaking I'm not ready to lead trails, although not for lack of enthusiasm. :D

I'm also in a similar wife-and-kids boat as you @codyaustin5 - 3 boys who are 5 & 1/2, 4, and 2 & 1/2 - and I'm sure they would love to play with your girls, and I know my wife would appreciate a trail day that's fun & easy on the kids (and her DD!)

There are a handful of folks that have yet to sign up so those groups won't stay empty. If there's a group that only has "leader" as an open spot then it'd probably be safe to take that spot assuming there are more than 1-2 people in the list who have indicated they'd be willing to lead.

I am interested in a family/mining tour. I added my name as the first on the list for Thursday "Choose your own adventure". Looks like it does not line up with @codyaustin5, but maybe others. I'll do some research, but would be very open to an easy/moderate trail suggestions with historical stops. Currently in Dinosaur National Monument. Total of 5 200 sightings. Two were built out. One towing a boat into Salt Lake, and the other in the Dino Monument parking lot (but I couldn't find the driver)... Rocky Mountain is next then Breck.. Thank you to Cody for setting this up.

Eisbaer, I didn't get into the Easy group as their was a question whether I should go at all. But if you (or others) would like to do an easy, family friendly drive with plenty of history then I would be willing to join you. What Cody has laid out as Easy Option 2 is very good and close to what you are looking for. But it is also full. For a smaller group I would suggest doing Boreas Pass (out of Breckinridge) followed by Weston Pass going east to west followed, possibly, by Shrine Pass. The first two have plenty of history. In fact, you can pick up pamphlets for Weston Pass (maybe Boreas) that provides short brief historical background on various spots along the road. Did you know that Weston Pass was considered by many to be the busiest road in Colorado in 1887 or thereabouts. Mr Dow (can't remember his first name) that created the Dow Industrial Average referred in his journal to an eating establishment along that road and even commented on the quality of the food. You can see where that inn was. Boreas Pass follows a former railroad line from Como to Breck and has a railroad museum at the top of the pass.

It looks like @elkeye is signed up for Easy 2 both Thursday and Friday. Maybe he would want to join us on Thursday and then do Easy 1 on Friday. And @Tremek is currently the only person signed up for Easy 1 on Thursday. Maybe he would want to join us on Thursday.

I would be willing to lead what I described above as I know these trails fairly well. Just throwing that out there. Boreas Pass gets a lot of traffic as it is driveable in just about anything and has some short narrow spots where it would be good to have someone (e.g. the trail leader) go through first then hold traffic while the rest of the crew comes through.

One other factor that makes Boreas/Weston/Shrine a good option for children is that you can easily get back to Breck on the highway after doing each run. So if the kids have had enough you can bail between Boreas and Weston or after Weston.

Again, I don't want to mess up what is already planned. Just looking to accommodate some possible overflow in the easy/family group on Thursday if that is necessary.

BTW, @Eisbaer , when in RMNP, be sure to drive up the Fall River Rd. (one way going up from the bottom). Narrow, dirt road but no issues. Only open in the summer. Takes you to the same visitor center at the top as does Trail Ridge Rd. A couple of places you can stop along the way to check out a waterfall or whatever.

No worries we still have more to sign up. Pick one of the easy trails and the group can always change the trail route. We can certainly suggest some as well that everyone is comfortable with so don't worry too much about the trail selection especially when it comes to the easy scenic ones.

I will make myself available on Saturday to lead the wife/kids day. Hopefully everyone who has kids can join us and make a fun day out of it. Also we have an early dinner reservation on Saturday with Toyota and Elite so we need to get back earlier anyways on that day.

I've updated Group 2 on Saturday to be family day. @RyanR @SGT0311 apoligize since you signed up there but feel free to jump to group 1, 3 or 4. Or join us.

I was just in Breck last weekend - without my 200:( Can confirm that the weather was fantastic but it did rain every afternoon for ~30-45mins. Even hailed on us twice. But just small "hey, interesting that it is hailing" hail, not paint-destroying large hail.

Looking through some of these amazing pics I regret taking United and not my 200, but maybe if y'all do it again next year I'd be in? At least this is further encouragement to mount the KO/2s and TRD wheels sitting in my garage! ... have fun you guys, and definitely post!

She looks like she's having a great time! My dudes are also ready for adventure; they may not look enthused in this pic from Red Cone last year, but they dig it:

Funny looking at pics a year later and realizing how fast these guys are growing up.

Awesome! I don't mind that one bit as we have an 8 week old baby and were debating whether to bring her or leave mom and grom and home. We are taking her for some wheeling near Empire this weekend to see how she handles the bouncing around in her carseat. She is just starting to hold her torso and head up on her own so we were a little worried about her tiny neck holding up that giant melon head all day!

Just my opinion, I would not take a newborn wheeling. Of course my kids are now 26 and 29 so my ideas may be outdated

I agree, however the selections listed for the family run are high on scenery very low on technical. Hell, I've run Shrine Pass many times in a lowered Mazdaspeed3 so I expect it wouldn't be much worse than Denver roads in the LX. I'll know more after our little pre-run this weekend, but if there's any concern she'll be staying home.

Parenting stories.... we actually took our first born to Ouray for the fj summit when she was 8 months old. My wife got so paranoid she stuffed towels on the side of her head and car seat. Then held her head so she wasn't a bubble head! Lol she survived...

Heaven forbid any of us should have a mishap...but if we did, I suspect our little ones would fare better than anyone else because of their child safety seats! Modern child seats really are amazingly effective...

Trails like Shrine pass and scenery would be fine I am sure. Sorry if I over stepped. I had hit my afternoon feel like a siesta slot :D

I think the family option is a great idea. That said, the last time I tilted the LC even the slightest holy hell uproar in the car from everyone. At this point they are all staying home, but that could change...........

Not at all! Sorry if my post came off defensive. We're first time parents and figuring this out as we go, this weekend will be the beta run. She's done some brief wheeling to get to camping spots but nothing sustained for any period of time.
