Since we are on the topic of family days and easy routes, Cody and Cole have me leading the Group 1 (Easy) route on Thursday. I know that is before some of you get there. But for those who are there on Thursday and want a family-friendly route this would be a good one. Shrine, Weston and Boreas Passes can all be done with stock 200's. (In fact, most of it can be done in a Corolla.). There will be some washboarding at times and the east side of Weston Pass is bumpy (I wouldn't take a Corolla on that - not one I cared about.). There will be plenty of opportunities to make stops for photography, stretching the legs or finding a tree. Shrine Pass has a trailhead to a short walk to a lookout towards Mount of the Holy Cross. Before Route 6 was built in the 1940s, Shrine Pass was the primary route from Denver to Glenwood Springs. Weston Pass has a "waterfall" and plenty of history. In the late 1800s it was one of the busiest roads in Colorado and now you won't see more than a handful of vehicles while driving it. Boreas Pass was an old railroad grade and has a railroad museum at the top. Though a popular scenic drive out of Breck, the traffic should be less midweek. Google Maps says the route is 4 and a half hours of driving. (I can send you the Google Maps route.). But if anyone needs to bail part way or if the weather becomes a problem it is easy to get back to Breck between the 3 segments. I will have printed copies for the historical background on the routes. (Weston has roadside markers that map to brief historic vignettes along the route. Great for the kids to watch for.). Bottom line, if your family is only going to be there on Thursday or Friday and wants to do a family friendly route then feel free to join us.

I'm packing up today and heading for Breck (actually Golden!) tomorrow morning, about a 1200 mile drive. Yesterday my TPMS started acting up, so it looks like I'll spend the next several thousand miles being annoyed by the warnings on my dash. Poo.

Electrical tape will hide that so youre not bothered for the next 1200 miles.

Dirty...travis, dirty....

Heading to Moab in a couple hours...

Dan, that sounds awesome. You'll be the most knowledgeable trail leader by a long shot.

I'd like to add that those passes will tend to be much more large-convoy-friendly than a lot of the other trails we will be running in the area. I mention this in case anyone is thinking of joining that group, which is "full" - it could probably exceed our arbitrary 9 truck cap without much trouble. Worst case, the convoy could be split into two groups. We won't need a "trail leader" (in the traditional sense) on those dirt roads, as there won't be any spotting involved. I think radio comms to keep the convoy generally together, tracking family-related stops, etc. will be the primary function.

Boreas Pass has some narrow spots that are really only able to accommodate 1 vehicle up or down, but there are only a couple of those spots. I would add that Boreas Pass seems to be a pretty popular mountain biking route as well - yesterday there was a race going from Como to Breck, so please keep an eye out and give plenty of space to our two-wheeled friends.

In terms of scenery, those trails are fantastic - out of town visitors will have a great time!

I saw this on facebook and thought it appropriate for any big event

I love it! In fact, I think my neck would benefit from cushion like that! Especially if ti has elephants on it. And headphones.

Amarillo now, Colorado Springs Tomorrow, then see everyone in Golden on Wednesday.

I've never been on any of theses trails but have them all in the iPad Motionx. Look forward to the new views and meeting new folks as well as seeing "the regulars" that could make it.

As most of you know slee is under construction expanding their building. Parking is tight so on Wednesday's meet up please utilize both sides of the street on Pine Ridge Rd for parking.

When is the Toyota guy going to be joining? Is he a tech guy or a rep? I have a question (the bubbling gas thing) if he's a tech guy. It was brutal today on Top of the World. Pure gas fumes from every 200.
@TonyP several of us had the same experience last year. What was weird is that some did not. Mine was especially bad and was actually dripping from relief Cap.

It is almost like it is boiling. It is the only trail it did this one. So have to think that perhaps it is due to the elevation and heat combination and the closed fuel system where unused gas is returning to the tank. But probably not a question the Toyota guy will be able to answer.

Yeah all of us had it on a few of trails here. I could see the fuel vapors pouring out of Marks gas filler area. It was wild. To the point of giving me a headache from the fumes.

Maybe. But if he's a tech guy maybe he'll have some insight. Just curious.

He will be joining us Friday on trails and then dinner Saturday night where it will be a open forum to ask him questions and he'll talk about his experience with testing the 200!series. I would ask him your question on Saturday as he may know what causes it.

What time is the caravan leaving Slee on the way to Breck Wednesday? I plan to show up around 1:30pm, but I have 3 big projects going at work I'm hoping will stay quiet so I can duck out early.
Around 3:30-4pm timeframe.

Wednesday night is a free night to get checked in or set up camp. Feel free to grab dinner with people otherwise meet up time is 7am Thursday for trail runs. See schedule that was emailed out for meeting place.

We got checked into our house on French street last night and am getting settled in. There is good street parking in front of the house of anyone is looking for parking while in town. I'm at 314 South French St. (Near the brewery)

Palo duro canyon last night, somewhere south of Denver tonight. See y'all soon!
